Installing Java Runtime Environment. How, Please ?

    Hello,

Will blame it on old age (very) now.
    Great excuse.

    Apparently running W10.

Seems I have a program or two that require the Java Runtime Environment.
I know absolutely nothing about Java,

Could someone, please, walk me thru all the steps, in excrutiating detail,
on how to obtain it, and how to install it on my pc.

    Thank you.
    Very appreciated,
    Bob

I haven't needed JRE for years. What's the program that needs it installed?

    Go here:
    Java download links

Use whichever Windows download you prefer as appropriate

    Follow the prompts.

    Access Denied
    click on Download Java

Scroll down the page to link "See all Java 8 Downloads for Desktop users."
Then the Windows section where there are three choices for online installer, 32 bit, 64 bit, and instruction links.

You need to choose whether you need both versions or just the one. I just use the 32 bit version.

Assuming you downloaded the installer file, right click > run as administrator.

    Access Denied

    Hi Robert

The steps provided by the member should be sufficient

Just note which Java you need to not have unnecessary apps installed

My advice would be download the 32Bit- Install it by following the on screen prompts and then test your applications

If working you are good to go

If not install the 64Bit and then test and if that works uninstall the 32BIT
