    VS Studio Code Background Update?

    Good morning all.
Please forgive me if this is the wrong area for this thread.

I am looking for a way, a setting, something, that will allow me to have VS Studio Code update in the background automatically.
The issue im having is that multiple machines in our IT environment keep getting flagged each month for an oudated VS Code.
As soon as you open it up, it updates, but since there are a few of these machines and they only get used at certain times, it would be a great help if there was a way to apply the updates without having to log into each machine and open the app.

Does anyone know of a way to make this happen.
Maybe a way to have it update via Windows Update?

    Thank you all in advance.

Three different methods are listed under:
Use command-line parameters to install, update, and manage Visual Studio

    1. Check if you need to refresh the VS installer. If it's current, re-run the installer in upgrade mode.
    2. Install VS using winget, and run "winget update --id Microsoft.VisualStudio.[blah]".
    3. Using SCCM or InTune to update VS, using Administrator Updates.

Just to be clear, this is Visual Studio Code not Visual Studio 2022, right?

As far as I know, the only way to update Visual Studio 2022 is to use the VSIX installer outside of Visual Studio 2022 itself, unless the suggestions made by Garlin work. I haven't tried them. I know if you have to upgrade the installer, you have to do that outside of VS 2022, at least on my machine. Now I am itching to try the winget method and see if that works. Sadly, I can't use the command line, as I didn't install it that way, and it seems from the link that Garlin posted that if you want to update that way, you would have had to install with the command line. That's what I get from the link, anyway. I could be wrong. Please let me know if I am.

As for Visual Studio Code, I just make it a practice of checking for updates once a week. It's a bit of a nuisance, as the updates aren't offered by Windows Update and it is not easy to see when you need an update like it is with VS 2022, which gives you a little indicator on screen. The easiest way seems to be to check for updates within the application and just let VS Code handle it for me.

I don't know, your mileage may vary on this one, but I finally just went to once a week update checking. It works for me.

Thank you for both for the answers, it seems i will have to put something in place so we do scheduled checks on the existing installations. Slowly move the installations to one of the better, automated methods. im liking the sound of the winget one as we recently had that deployed to all machines in the environment.

I think this solves my issue for now. thanks again all.
