iTunes not recognizing USB connecteed iPhone, so can't set ujp sync

    iTunes is Version 12.13.1.3. Windows 10 Pro 2H22 V 19045.

Phone is connected to PC and Trusted. If I open the iPhone icon on my PC, i can see the contents of Storage, namely all my photos organized in folders by month and year. That said, in iTunes, if I select File | Devices. all the flyout menu options are greyed out and I don't see an iPhone icon in iTunes.

This is very frustrating. For years, I used iTunes to sync Outlook with my phone's contacts and calendars. Then it stopped working. I had other priorities for a while, but now I want to get that synchronization working again. But first iTunes has to recognize the darn phone.

Is the cable a genuine Apple or Charge & Sync/Apple certified or a generic third party version?
    Please try:
Connect the iDevice with a USB cable to the PC.
Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus controllers and choose Update Driver Software.

    • Select "Browse my computer for driver software."
    • Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
    • Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
    • Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
    • Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
    • Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

    Apple device

Have you tried the Apple device app from Microsoft store?. I’ve switch from iTunes to that and it seems much easier.

Personally I would be careful with this recommendation for the Apple Devices app in the Microsoft Store:
iTunes not recognizing USB connecteed iPhone, so can't set ujp sync-apple_devices_microsoft_store.png

Two years on and there's been only 42 takers so far; the overall score of 1.9 is very poor and the reviews are scathing... plus you need a MSA account and looks like you need to be enrolled in the Windows Insider Programme to use it.

Note: The overall score has now increased to 2.0 since I took the screenshot 5 mins ago.

You don't have to be a Windows Insider to use this app. Apple has announced that itunes is going away for windows and macos.
I'm using it with both Win 10 and Win 11 and not having any problems.

What is replacing iTunes on Windows?
In a move mirroring the macOS experience, Apple has replaced iTunes with three separate applications for Windows: Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices.Feb 9, 2024

I don't think iTunes will automatically die on Windows, just won't be available for download so I have it archived against the day I'll need it again. Last time it was needed was to transfer images from an old iPad G2 to a Thumb drive and it didn't have a file manager so the new iTunes took care of that.

The Apple Devices app in the Microsoft Store was released 2022/09/20.

Apple may well be ending development of iTunes (the Windows version has been roundly criticised and, IMO, quite rightly so... although it works perfectly running in MacOS) but, from the review comments, the Apple Devices app still has a long, long way to go.

Another thing that may put people off is if they HAVE to use a MSA to obtain it from the Microsoft Store. From comments here on TenForums it appears there are a signifcant number of people who are adverse to using a MSA. I'm one of them.

The App was released in 2022 but there have been many updates, the lastest being March 28, 2024.
I'm not advocating using it or itunes just pointing out an alternative. I used itunes until last month when I bought a new computer with win 11 on it. After reading about itunes being replaced I gave Apple Devices a try and have been happy. I only use it to sync my photos in my Apple devices to my Win 11 computer.
