Customized windows media pack for Win 10 N edition

Hello, to have the support of media playback in my LTSC 2019 N edition, i installed the media feature pack for my version 1809, unfortunately this package if filled with bloatware and unwanted tools, it do not install only the codecs (like enchanced video renderer), but also xbox services, game mode, xbox bar and other crap.

I choose purposely the N version because i want to install myself what i need, but seems i'm forced to install tons of crap to have even baseline multimedia features.

I immediately restore windows to the previous version, without thepackage but now i'm to the starting point again.

I found a nice video directdraw renderer as replacement of the native missing EVR, called mpcvideorender, is working great and i'm now able to play any video, but unfortunately is only limited to standalone tools like media player classic (MPC), some games and tools that require built-in codecs do not work.

My question is, there is a way to extract from the windows media package only the dll i need to play corretly video and not all the unwanted bloatware, tools and extra functions?

Also tried this guide but do not work, i have blackscreen when i playback video, only audio works. Seems it missing some registry entries and features.

    Any help is appreciated.

Where did you download the W10 Media Feature Pack? The official MS release doesn't include any Xbox Gaming apps or bloatware, and it wouldn't anyway because they're installed from MS Store.

I extracted the Media Feature Pack .msu, and confirmed there are no Xbox components inside.

    Here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...diafeaturepack

In the dropdown menù chose the correct windows version, in my case was 1809 (2018).

When i install it, it add the gaming xbox menu in the settings (only in the N version such menù is removed by default), inside there is the game mode, game bar, it also add 1 service and maybe more crap i do not know atm.

If you have a link with a more clean package, even a third party one is ok, need only the baseline directdraw decoders and coders, nothing else, no gaming menu, no game bar, no windows media player, etc... can be appreciated.

Xbox Gaming isn't part of the distribution. Maybe Windows Update is taking the opportunity to install other apps once it recognizes there's a Media Pack. You can uninstall the Xbox apps using PowerShell commands.

    powershell "Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers *Xbox* | Remove-AppxPackage"

WU is disabled, i used a script to pause updates till 2099 so it isn't activating itself unless i manual reactivate it, infact the "softwaredistribution" folder have the same indentical size, nothing is downloaded, so is not possible, this feature is inside the package, probably the mf.dll and mfcore.dll install the xbox crap and services.

Btw, thank you for the command line, i can try it tomorrow but if you have a different package without all the xbox and gaming addons is much better because once the package is installed is very hard to remove it, i'm forced to overwrite the whole disck image to restore the system as before, and using the windows modules unistaller make no effect.

Based upon this line in the first post [LTSC 2019 N edition] and the Poster's time I'd venture the issue is the N version sold in Europe, something about their laws and bundling of programs that can be otherwise be provided by third-party vendors. Something about anti-competition. The Version of Windows is old and the numbering has changed, now designated by Version 22H2 and Build number, currently is 22H2 Build 19045.xxxx. Version 22H2 is pretty much the last full version for Win10 and scheduled for EOL Oct. 14, 2025.

The Version number: 22 is the year, H is which half of the year and 2 is the second half. I think this started in 2020 or maybe 2021.

I prefer to stay with LTSC 2019 1809, do not care about updates since i use it on a offline laptop, anyway i understand your point and the N edition issues, i will reinstall it with media codecs (non N) and then unistall the media player and xbox components after installation. I found no other solution.
