    Calculator

When I turn my computer On, Task Manager shows that Calculator is running in the background.

I've checked Services & I don't see anything referring to the Calculator.
I've checked System Configuration & the only process is the Microsoft Windows OS.

It's not a big deal, but I was wondering if anyone knows why the service starts on it's own & from where is it running?

Try rt click, Properties - if genuine you should see e.g.
    Calculator-1.jpg

However I only see that if I launch the Calculator....

That's what I see also, but that seems to point to the actual program & not a Start-Up function.
If I were to edit that somehow, I think Calculator will cease to open at all.

It's interesting the Calculator's background start-up process is not listed anywhere.

In Settings, Privacy, go to Background Apps and turn off those you don't want:

You might want to check the "Startup" tab in Task Manager.

The Task Manager's Startup tab is empty & the System Configuration's Startup tab only shows 'Microsoft Windows Operating System.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Get Autoruns (free from MS).

Run that, use its search for anything to do with Calculator.

You can try that- I'm betting it doesn't show anything. If there's nothing there, it's not any form of 'startup' anywhere in the normal sense.

    Just an idea ...
If you use Task mgr to stop that task, does it ever restart?
If it does then that might help to point the finger at whatever you were doing at the time.

Sorry, your post #3 already addresses this point.
I also suggest that you right-click on any of those Task mgr headings in your diagram and select Command line. You'll need to widen the column by dragging its column divider to the right just as you might sometimes do in File explorer.
    e.g.

This is just intended to confirm that what's running is the normal Calculator.

I managed to reproduce your symptoms but only for a couple of minutes.
1 In Settings, Privacy, I turned on the Calculator entry.
    2 I rebooted
3 I deliberately ran the Calculator app from the Start menu.
4 I closed the Calculator app by clicking on its close button [x].
5 I looked in Task mgr and it was shown as running in the background just like in your first diagram. I looked again after starting this post so I could include a screenshot but it had stopped by then.
[6 I tidied up by turning off the Calculator entry in Settings, Privacy again then rebooted once more.]

I suggest you run through the same procedure.
Perhaps deliberately making it run in the background then turning it off again might cure the problem.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
