Authy Alternatives for 2FA?

can you have Bitwarden synced on two PCs? I've got Authy set up like that as i have 2 machines i use.

You can open and use Bitwarden in one of four ways:


1) Via the smartphone/tablet App

2) By going right to bitwarden.com

3) By using the Bitwarden software on your computer/s.

4) Via the Bitwarden browser extension which I think they support both Firefox and Chrome. Not sure about other browsers.

Doesn't matter how you do it. Once an entry is added, modified or deleted it's replicated to the Bitwarden server (or your own Bitwaden server if you know how).

I personally just like going to bitwarden.com I don't trust browser extensions because they can be hacked in ways you never thought before, and today's extensions are pretty much just a hackable script where the old tried and true XUL code was a lot better. In my opinion anyway. The Bitwarden program you can run on your computer is alright I guess, but has a few hiccups last I used it and I hate how things auto update behind my back. So I just go to the Bitwarden website.

Having said that, if you're wanting quick access to 2FA codes, then perhaps the Bitwarden Windows program might be what you'd use.

Ah, they have a portable App now. That'd be better in my opinion. Just no updates. Which is fine by me since I like manually updating things myself. I talk a little about that in the below video, which is a segue for my next video on Keepass below.

i'm a bit confused about the bitwarden site,

they suggest using Authy themselves, lol, but it seems to suggest the 2FA 6-digit code is only available on their mobile app? or do they mean you just need it on the phone to scan the QR?

You can scan the code with the Bitwarden App or enter the secret key from the website offering 2FA in your Bitwarden vault via the Bitwarden website, Bitwarden Windows program or Bitwarden browser extension.

If the website ONLY offers a QR code, then you can scan it with the Bitwarden App. Regardless of the method you chose, once a username, password or 2FA secret key is added to your vault it's available via the Bitwarden website, Bitwarden Windows program or Bitwarden browser extension.

----NERD MODE----

If you're like me and computer savvy you can print screen that QR code and parse it on the computer to get the secret key from the QR code and then enter it in Bitwarden. As an example: First Google result. ZXing Decoder Online I use something called CyberChef.

Most websites will provide the secret key that can be entered besides the QR code. The QR code is just the secret key. Same difference. The secret key is just a base32 string like this: ORSXG5DJNZTTCMRTGQ2TM

I don't know why they are recommending Authy et al. I'll have to chime in on that at their Github page.

I'm now using RoboForm's 2FA.. It works well and is available on iOS, Android and Windows and syncs between all three. I'm paying £18.95. In the US, it's $29.88.
It's main use is as a Password Manager and it excels at this.

thanks again @F22 Simpilot, got myself the premium of Bitwarden and got set up. Paypal played silly buggers initially, got it set up and it sent a mobile code to confirm it was me, said i was good to go, then sent me another...and again. quit it and logged back on and it hand't saved anything, so i had to do it all again, and this time it worked. what a carry-on :-D

PayPal has turned into a pretty crappy company anymore. I don't even use it anymore. In the U.S there's something called Zelle which is another escrow like PayPal and somehow makes money. How, I do not know. Probably the theft of privacy like many other things. But it is what it is.
