Microsoft Print to PDF - searchable text-retained result?

I don't use Print too PDF often. Mostly it's if I have a pdf and want to extract a subset of it into another pdf (I don't have paid Acrobat; just the free reader). But if I use it on a pdf (and, say, "print" page 2 or pages 4-7 or whatever, into a new pdf), the result is an image of a document, like scanning pages.

How can I start with a pdf, and end with a new pdf containing only the parts I want from the first pdf, and with the searchable text retained? I swear Print to PDF used to be configurable about the result file being a searchable pdf, or a scan/image, but I can't find such a switch now in using it.

I don't *HAVE* to accomplish this with Print to PDF of course. I'd like to not add more software to my computer, but if Print to PDF can't do what I want, what could be recommended for this purpose?

Some of the word processing components of free office suites are pdf readable. Try Writer in LibreOffice.

Thanks. But if I understand this correctly, it doesn't address my issue of wanting to print (export) a pdf in such a way that:
    • Allows me to export portions (selected pages for example) of the whole pdf
    • Allow the resultant new pdf to have its text parts searchable (be actual text) - versus a scanned image

That will depend on how the original pdf was created. If it wasn't saved in an OCR (optical character recognition) format then it can't be (re)created in that format. Some pdf documents are simply images (nothing more than a jpg) and cannot be edited/converted to a character scannable/readable OCR format

The original pdf is OCR searchable actual text.

I use the following website to split PDF files. Smallpdf
I can select individual page(s) to save into a new PDF file.

I tested a PDF file with searchable text. After I extracted one page and saved it the new file also contained searchable text.
