    Thunderbird's calendar - your opinion?

Hi, if you've tried this, I'd like to know what you think of it.
In particular, I'm guessing that there's no notification of events if Thunderbird isn't running.. which would seem to imply having it running all the time.

Basically I'm forced to look for a replacement calendar (with reminders) with the Calendar app being withdrawn- if I understand what MS is planning. Thanks.

Calendar function in the New Outlook. Leave it running all the time to get notifications.

the mail&calender app that comes as default with win10 works perfect ,like it can be closed and notifications will still show .
but now MS is ending the app...

Lacking comment on Thunderbird's calendar, I can confirm there's no notification when Tbird is closed. Whe Tbird is launched again, pending notifications are displayed.

I have TB running all the time, but do not use the calendar function. Do you have a concern about having it running all the time?

I never need it running all the time. I only run it exceptionally. I guess I'll be looking for another program if MS really withdraws the Calendar app... plus it means copying out forward scheduled eventss up to a year away.

MS really is so thoughtful in withdrawing features like this- shows it can't be depended on for these.

Technology and services continue to evolve, morph, improve, and sometimes a feature seems to be negatively impacted. I try to roll with it and embrace the change, even at my advanced age.

    Options:
    1. Waste time researching alternatives, maybe purchase alternative, transcribing events (or export/import), and hope that the alternative has a long life
    2. Overcome any bias against MS and just use the New Outlook, no effort or cost required
    3. Switch to Apple

Thanks... not a waste of time researching alternatives... it means escaping the unexpected vagaries of MS- which previously caused me to waste quite a bit of time when the product was withdrawn.

    I found this:
The new Outlook for Windows app is now generally available for all consumers

And is all existing calendar data automatically and seamlessly imported into it?

And for Mail app users, the same question - as this is bound to become an issue?

** I clicked the link 'try the New Outlook' in Calendar..
    - it does not accept other than a small range of email providers
    - if you do add an email address- everything is synched to the MS cloud.
    - as I don't want it as an email client- I'm forced to find an alternative calendar- although it seems the current one will remain during 2024.

I'm mad about Outlook replacing my Mail app, and here's why | PCWorld
    - a critical review!

    Thanks.

The New Outlook is in growth mode and is expected to support additional email providers. Not sure how this coincides with the removal of the old Mail/Calendar apps.

Expect all calendar data to be automatically seamlessly migrated (it did not my @Outlook.com account). Same for email. But only time will tell.

Thunderbird with its Calendar feature could be your solution, but it may not be possible to sync this across devices.
