Office 2010 or Office 2013 ? Help Me Decide

Clean installing Windows 10 and have both Office 2010 and Office 2013 available and your thoughts on which should I use. I have been running Office 2010 on my systems and mainly basic use of Word and Excel. Also x86 or x64?

Also would my files created with Office 2010 have any problems with Office 2013?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Can't say much to features but I don't like the flat washed-out look of 2013. Approx 60-70% of my clients that installed 2013 went back to 07 or 10. The others like 2013. Did notice an issue with 2013 Outlook when it was first released - IMAP accounts constantly syncing and going through bandwidth like crazy on a few accounts. Would hope that bug has been fixed by now though.

Your 2010 files should work fine with 2013.

For whatever its worth I also have a copy of Office 2010 but decided to ditch it on my home pc in favor of LibreOffice. Granted I have no need for Outlook on my home pc but so far everything is working out including working with Office files from work while at home.

Agree, don't need or use M$ office, been using LibreOffice since it came out and it's free.......

I used both extensively. The only conflict I found had to do with 64 and 32 bit versions, but it was minor, and only happened once. MS recommends x86, but the x64 is technically faster. The difference between 2010 and 2013 is that 2013 will ask if you want to convert to the newer format (which is still usable in the older versions).

I use 64 bit 2013 in an office with 2010 and 2013 x86, and enjoy it

MS also has basic for free at outlook.com. and as mentioned, you can find other free programs that take a little bit of getting used to, but function pretty similarly.

Installed download of Windows 10 today and need to look into an OFFICE program. Oh, how I miss Microsoft WORD. I never heard of LibreOffice, so I googled and read where it's similar to WORD. And it's free. Do you find it easy to use? I basically need it for writing letters.

Not only is it easy to use you can save documents as Word documents if you're sending them to a computer that has Office on it. LibreOffice is the most compatible with Microsoft Office, the real differences (incompatibility) are in the more professional functions in PowerPoint and others that most general users don't use.

I have Office 2010 on Win7 and Office 2013 on Win8.1, don't use 2013 much. I also have the 1 year subscription for Office 365 for up to 5 devices that came with my Dell Venue 8" Tablet but haven't installed yet. I, too, use LibreOffice, version 5 still supports the 'old' Works documents, has been important for some of my older clients that can no longer get Works [9 was the last version a few years ago] but still have a lot of documents. Office 2016 probably is not too far away.

I've been so full of indecisions lately . Everything is happening so fast and all at once. And today I thought I was installing the free trial of Office 365 but, oddly, Office 2013 got loaded instead. But I'm okay with that because I'm amazed at how fast and smooth this 2013 is. I've only had Windows 10 since Friday the 4th and I'm finally getting somewhat familiar with it. I never did try the LibreOffice. I decided I couldn't take anymore surprises, less I completely lose my sanity. <G> Thank you for your explanations. you guys have been great. Have a safe Labor Day holiday.
