    It's a Windows item not VLC-specific.
Open it by right-clicking on your Taskbar SysTray [Notn area] volume icon & selecting Volume mixer.

And perhaps then you'll post again in your thread Find or Search in NotePad - TenForums

If you havnt already got a shortcut of VLC nearby, you need to get into the root of the VLC program files, so you can manually create a shortcut. Its easy

    Firstly, goto

    C:/Program Files (x86)

    Or

    C:/Program Files

Then look for a program called 'VideoLAN'

Go into that folder, then possibly another folder called VLC.

Once in the root of VLC, look for a file called 'vlc.exe'. Then right click the file and click 'create shortcut'
Now you can drag this shortcut file to your desktop for easy opening, every time

Move the shortcut. Copy or cut the shortcut, it doesnt matter.
Once VLC shortcut is on your desktop, you'll be able to open the program without opening any audio or video file.

    Hoping that may help

You could type volume in the Taskbar Search Box and select Sound Mixer Options.

Try3 thanks and for your info the issue with Notepad was entirely my fault and not with Notepad itself.

Paul Black, that worked great and I believe that the sound with VLC is now fixed and seems to be working fine. Thank you.

3bit, like you I have been also using K-Lite for years and yes when use it other than VLC, I have a good video picture and sound.

I really just wanted to use VLC for personal reasons. I know that is stupid. USE WHAT WORKS FOR ME.

Two more questions and I will stop:

Is there anyway to open VLC without using a video or audio file?
I know there are a lot of free video players out there. Are there any other good recommendations?
Yes, you can start VLC without any A/V by like with any app starting simply the executable. If you installed it to its default location C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC you also have during installation several choices and that includes desktop and start up menu links.
Start the executable (vlc.exe) by itself.

Alternative would be the one I mentioned is included in the K light codec pack: media player classic.
since you mentioned you have good picture and audio when you use media player classic versus VLC then obviously there is a problem with VLC. Have you downloaded and installed the most recent version?

Oooops not quite done, stlll need to be able to open VLC without using video or audio file to open it.

Pluginz, I followed those instructions and they not work for me.. When I click on the shortcut created, it shows the VLC icon on the task bar, but does not open on the main screen.

    Thanks all.
