GSP MONEY MATTERS 2 - really need this to run on Win 10??

Hi, I have used this simple program for many years for myself and a couple of elderly relatives on Win XP. Unfortunately that notebook is starting to fail and I am hoping someone could help with simple instructions how I could use this old program on Win 10, or if not what simple program I could purchase to be able to use the old Money Matters data.

Really hope there's someone who can assist please!! Thank you

    Welcome to tenforums.

GSP Variety Pack : GSP : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
    - this is 16 bit software so will not run on 1 64 bit O/S. It seems it does run on a 32bit version of Win 10.. see below.

I suggest you have 2 other options.
    a. Run e.g. Win XP in a virtual machine under Win 10. You can use Virtualbox (free).

That means you install, boot and use Win XP in a Win 10 window.

    b. Find what sort of format the program can export data in. See if there's anything useful in a form that can be opened by some other program- even if it's a spreadsheet or simply text, or maybe CSV.
Or assess how much data there is, and if not too much, use a completely different program and configure that manually.

I have searched tenforums for you ... a useful thing to try- and found this:
cant get GSP money matters to run on 64 bit W10 but ok on 32 bit

It does run on 32 bit Windows. And as I suggested, under XP as a virtual machine.

Thank you - I am not computer savvy and only wished I'd pursued this issue while GSP were still in operation! The company that took them over are unable to assist.

Not sure I am savvy enough to run win xp in virtual machine? I only have my 64 bit win 10 Dell laptop? Also how to find what sort of progrm it would export to? (sorry!).

I did see the old thread and to be honest was hoping that someone who has had success would be able to explain very simply how I could still use it or offer suggestions re the data....otherwise I guess its starting from scratch which would be really painful as I often end up looking up things for my relatives as to when they bought something/how much they paid/how long theyve had it etc. :)

Hi, let's step back and look at this differently - perhaps your real priority. Backups!

    :
Unfortunately that notebook is starting to fail
    - the really important thing is to ensure you have a full backup before you risk losing everything.

    What backups do you have?

    - the disk may be failing, or maybe the laptop itself is failing and the disk is still ok. A failing disk without a backup would be disastrous.... plus finding a way to extract other than simple files from it if you had just the disk, given it's XP, could be hard.

For example, a good way to back up everything would be to use AOMEI Backupper (which runs on XP, apparently) and create a disk image of everything on an external disk. You can use the free version.

Considering just GSP Money Matters 2 - does its options allow you to export /back up all its data?
In any way at all, in any format?

If so, do you have such a backup?

So i got it running. I can't say if it's fully functional because I don't know how to use it. Also I cannot find any option to export/ import data or accounts.

From my machine windows 10 64bit:

GSP MONEY MATTERS 2 - really need this to run on Win 10??-moneymatters.jpg

    How to:
    Install Release v0.9.0 . otya128/winevdm . GitHub

    Download otvdm-v0.9.0.zip

GSP MONEY MATTERS 2 - really need this to run on Win 10??-install.jpg

You should then be able to install and run Money Matters 2

@reddwarf4ever - you've used this program- can you advise where its data is stored and how to move it to a new installation? Thanks.

So I've uninstalled it but it seems to me that data (account data) might be stored within the program folder in which case it should be a matter of just copying the containing folders or files across.

As far as I can work out that member never got this software to run on 64bit Windows 10. The question to be answered is where is the data stored? On your working copy look in the program folder and see which folders and files it contains. I can't tell you where to look because it depends upon where you chose to install it.

You might be able to decipher this:

I have subscribed to this thread so you can reply and i should get a message....works 100% with windows 10, it installed and windows said it needed to install a feature, whatever that was....anyway it wouldnt install from the cd gave a DLL error, so i opened the disk and the money folder and ran the .EXE from there and it installed and works 100%

My wife has fould no other program to match this for her needs, so pleased it works on windows 10, try the same method with windows 8 or upgrade to W10 free
