Ridiculous problem viewing pics in MS File Explorer

When trying to view all the image files that I've saved on my Dell PC since my latest personal file backup in Microsoft Windows 10 File Explorer, for some bizarre, ridiculous reason, File Explorer now goes through the all image files of the subfolder that a particular photo is in when I click on the arrow on the right side, rather than all the image files that came up listed when I did a date modified search. WHY?! It makes absolutely no sense at all! How can I get File Explorer to change back to the way it used to be, which makes much more sense? PLEASE HELP - I would very much appreciate it; thanks.

This is an example of a date modified search:

    datemodified:3/1/2020 .. 5/5/2020

If you copy/paste exactly that line in the search, it should show images that have a Date Modified detail range
    from March 1, 2020 to May 5, 2020.
Is that the same way you're typing it?

Almost, but not exactly. On my Dell PC, apparently double digits are required for the month & date, and a space both before & after the double period (between the 2 dates) isn't required. For example, this is the way it looks on my Dell PC -

    datemodified:03/01/2020..05/05/2020

The problem that I'm having doesn't seem to be with the search itself, but rather the viewing of the results of the search. It still baffles me as to why after more than 2 years of being fine, my PC suddenly decides that for every image file that shows up in the search results, clicking on the arrow to the right of the image causes my PC to show all the other image files in the folder or subfolder that contains that image file, rather than all the other resulting image files listed in File Explorer. Frustratingly bizarre!

Please post a screenshot illustrating what you're doing. That makes it much easier for someone to try to reproduce it. Thanks.

I don't get any arrow when I try this, just a list of files (or their 'icons')

I finally upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 last weekend, and to my horror, I discovered that the exact same problem(s) occur in Windows 11 as well. Even worse, for every pic that I now have to click on individually to view it rather than just being able to use the arrow buttons on my keyboard to go through a slideshow as I used to be able to do, I now get a "Open File - Security Warning" message that asks me if I'm sure if I want to open the file (just view the pic), then I get the following app installation prompt as well -

    https://i.postimg.cc/kg2Vw0gV/App-prompt.jpg

This is absolutely ridiculous, and very disappointing in Windows 11. If it can't be easily fixed, then does anyone possibly know of any free software that I could download as a replacement for Windows File Explorer? Something that can search for all my latest personal files (using a "datemodified" search) and view all the pics that turn up in the results in a slideshow rather than having to click on each individually? THANKS for any help.

Also, another thing that I find very disappointing in Windows 11 is that it won't display the seconds as well as minutes & the hour for the current time just by clicking in the bottom right corner of my screen. How can I get the seconds displayed in the time with just a simple click or two? THANKS for any helpful suggestions.

What 'arrow to the right' would that be exactly?

Lacking sufficient intution and a functional crystal ball, I'm going to suggest you have something installed that is changing the behaviour, rather than the problem being something fundamental in Windows. That you see the same issue in Win 11 supports that idea.

Still no screenshot from you of file explorer, alas.

Please note that now you are on Win 11, you are best advised to join
    elevenforum.com

    where Win 11 is supported.

    Thanks.

FYI: I get an arrow but clicking on it does nothing.

In any case I just use Diffractor with a search filter like:

You need to post this on Eleven Forum... not here.

Sorry for not being clear. I meant the arrow on the right side of the black background on my screen, right under the "Next" on the right side, when actually viewing a pic that appears right after I've just double-clicked on it in MS File Explorer -

Thanks, & Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
