Strange file association with LibreOffice (".key" file)

    Hi,

just installed LibreOffice 7.5.6.2 64bit and it automatically associate ".key" files for LibreOffice Impress.

"Key" files are "Apple Keynote" files but it can also be registration data for some software.

Although ".key" is associated with Impress, it has Calc icon. And if I open that file, it opens in Writer.

My test file is rarreg.key which is registration licence for WinRar.

What is wrong with this association?

    Thanks.

KEY File: How to open KEY file (and what it is)

It would seem more likely this is meant to be an Apple type presentation format file rather than one of the other possible uses for .key as in the above link.

LibreOffice was originally created to be open source and compatible with Office.
I can see where it might use Office icons (or similar), rather than "MAC" icons.

Maybe rebuild your icon cache and see if anything changes?

I created a ppt file, then converted it to .key.

I have Libre Office installed - this is what I see:

    As I suspected- Apple keynote.

But as you say, a Libre Office Calc icon.... yet it opens in Impress.

Odd- I simply refreshed the desktop (where I placed these) and got

Tried changing the association to another program, back to Impress... still the green Calc icon.

    One solution/ fix:

    and browse to simpress.exe

    - done.

Okay, so if you create text document (txt, odt, doc, docx...) and change extension to key, it still opens in Impress or in Writer?

It seems it choose right application based on file content.

If I create a txt file, then change the extension only to key, the icon changes to Impress, but the file opens in Writer.
Which is curious, as my default association for txt isn't Writer.

Other than that the associations seem ok- it's simply the assignment of the icon path that seems incorrect.

Have you used the Default Programs Editor as I suggested?

(It's a great free tool, very convenient).

No, i dont need "Impress" icon. I dont have any "Keynote" files. My key files are only licences for Winrar and Total Commander.

Keynote just used same file extension which is bad idea.
