    Microsoft removing WordPad

Since Microsoft has decided to remove WordPad from future Windows releases, how can we still be able to use WordPad in the future?

There are some programs & games I have from earlier Windows versions (95, XP, 7, even 3.1) that I still use on 10.

What I did was find all the files associated to a certain program/game, copy those to a flash drive & I was able to copy them into Windows 10. Some just worked, some needed a work-around.

Removing WordPad is a bad idea. WordPad is at least able to open simple Word documents. People will have to install a third party program in the future to do that.

I don't normally use WordPad. The only time I find it useful is right after I install Windows. I use WordPad to read notes I made for installation. I previously used Word to make the notes. That is helpful until I get around to installing Office.

Same here. I can't even imagine what Microsoft was thinking when they made this decision.

See Bree's suggestion for rescuing Wordpad in post #4 this thread

If you look down to post #14, you'll see my own comments after testing it out - it works very well.
There is an equivalent TenForums News thread.

Guessing here, but Microsoft is probably hoping people will be upset enough to buy a version of Office.

Thanks Try3, I'll check out the link.

And if you look further down that linked article to my post #14, you'll see the Ed Tittel method of rescuing several other components from previous Windows versions.

I use WordPad occasionally. Is Microsoft really going to uninstall it from my computer or are they just not going to update it in the future?

Microsoft's exact words are "WordPad is no longer being updated and will be removed in a future release of Windows."
WordPad app has been deprecated in Windows 10 and Windows 11

It's uncertain which 'future release' MS may be talking about, the next version of W11 perhaps? Windows 12? What they have said is that "Windows 10, version 22H2 will be the final version of Windows 10". With no future W10 releases planned you should be safe if you're sticking with W10.

I haven't used WordPad in years, so won't miss it. LibreOffice Writer (free) easily does anything WordPad can do.

Bloated office suite ≠ light WordPad application
    Notepad ≠ WordPad
Long, complex documents ≠ short, simple documents
Web-based word processor ≠ locally installed word processor on HDD
"I don't use WordPad anyway" ≠ Those who do use WordPad
