Thanks to all for all the effort. Sorry I haven't replied. I've experienced many of the problems you all mentioned, but managed to fix all of them, including the 'Unsupported 16 bit application' message. The app is still running on my W10 laptop and a newer W11 laptop, on which I installed it with no problems. The Windows updates are the same on my W10 laptop and the desktop. On the desktop, when I sign on as a different user, same problem. So, I don't think its profile related. Here is event log info:

We've shown that the program can be newly installed on a Win 10 installation.

BEX error- try disabling DEP for the program.

Perhaps your crash occurs in fuller use of the program? Obviously we have barely done more than launch it.

Your version seems the same- have you tried downloading a new copy, fully uninstalling the old one and, following the thread, installed a new copy from the same source we used?

My version is latest available 5.0.0.7. I've uninstalled and reinstalled from a copy of that software that I got years ago. It's the same copy that I used to install on W11 laptop not long ago.

Upon launch, a pop-up window appears. Spinning wheel for a few seconds, then crash. It's supposed to open another pop-up where a password for the DB is solicited.

    What is DEP?

    Thanks.

There are entries in Reliability History. The earliest I see is 7/13 at 2:33 PM. I can't remember if the problem started before that. KB5028166 was installed 7/13 2:37 PM.

I remember doing something to prevent IE from automatically jumping to Edge, possibly around the time that problem started.

Click the 2nd radio button and specify your program.

    Removes the protection.

    - not seen in our case- but we haven't been using the program.

Make sure you've dealt with the 16 bit module I found a solution for (above).

dalchina. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Enabled DEP for all except 'Day-Timer Organizer Program File' which is the name of the application executable. 'dto2k.exe'. It now works!

This forum is great. Tried another one and got a useless ChatGPT like response.
