Skype offline installer vs Microsoft Store

Is there any difference between installing Skype using the offline installer and installing it from the Microsoft Store? The icon designs are different but the app seems to be the same

There are various Skype forums around where you might get a specific answer..

If by offline you mean downloadable and installable e.g.
    Download Skype - MajorGeeks
    vs available from the Store..

..from a Win 10 perspective, the update mechanisms will be completely different as well as where the files for the actual program/app are located.

There are two kinds of Store apps:
    - native Universal Windows Platform (UWP) programs, using the W10 "Modern UI" interface
    - normal Win32 programs repackaged for Store

Edge & Skype are two apps that fall into the latter class. The way you know this if the same program is/was offered for Win 7 and 8 platforms. The deployment folders and update mechanisms will be different, but they're essentially the same program as their EXE or MSI download versions.

Some Win32 apps are repackaged for Store because MS wants to increase engagement (traffic), and it's simpler to get non-technical users to install and manage apps this way.

Thanks, I tested both installers and the app/data is identical (except for the icon design), the only difference I see is the update mechanism. For the offline installer the update is reachable within the App (Settings/Help) , whereas for the Store installer the update is through the Store. I prefer the old school offline installer without depending on the Microsoft Store.
Just for reference for anyone who might prefer the offline installer here is the link that I got from this site

As a sidenote, and since Garlin also mentioned it, the offline installer for Microsoft Edge can be found here , which was referenced here
