I cannot print from my pc or save files as a pdf

I believe the issue has nothing to do with the printer or print "spooler." In retrospect, the issue seems to have started with trying to print pdfs from adobe but I realize now it must be a virus because the problems have grown. Yesterday, i had a message pop up and my computer screen went blue. The message said, "activate windows." In hindsight I should have just powered off but I clicked the message. Everything went to normal, I thought. Later when I tried to print a payment receipt from the internet, I could not print or save as a pdf. Also, when I tried to print a word document, I received a message that i needed to check my word setings to print. I have reset the print spooler and I was trying to update the printer drivers when I ran into the issue of my pc screen basically freezing. I have tried multiple times to hard reset it but it takes 30 - 45 minutes before the system responds to anything I try to do.

Hi, prior to 'yesterday' was all well?

Have you checked your disk? (Crystal Diskinfo, or Hard Disk Sentinel - excellent)
If you can't boot properly, then you can
    - create a live boot disk (Google if unsure) and boot your PC from that. Often Crystal Diskinfo is included.
    or
    - put your disk in a caddy, connect it to another PC and then check it.

The forum prompted you clearly in a couple of ways for your full Windows build number. (So we don't have to keep on asking).

Do you have any disk images? (Tenforums members endlessly recommend the routine and regular use of 3rd party disk imaging- so you can readily get back to a previous good working state).
Note: most people ignore this question. I do wonder why?

No I have not checked my disk because I could not get anything to boot earlier. I created the thread from my tablet because I could not get my pc to launch any of my internet services. I was finally able to get it to an earlier restore point so it seems to be launching some of the apps but so far, I cannot backup anything. I connected an external drive but so far it is not being recognized because it seems the usb port is not responding now to my self-powered external drives.

I will try to back up with a powered external drive. I do not have any third party imaging software and it seems that I cannot download to the PC. I have another PC that is identical make/model that I may have to use to assist with communicating with the forum. The powered external drive did light up but so far there has not been a file explorer window opened for the drive after 15 minutes.

I am finally able to get to the settings, so I can tell you that I have Windows 10 home, version 22H2, installed on 11/30/2020, OS build 19045.2965 and, Experience Pack 1000.19041.1000.0. Also, there is a previous restore point that is 8 days older than this restore point. In response to your question, as I stated I have noticed the other issues with printing prior to yesterday but otherwise, I did not have the software loading issues, the activate windows screen, etc.

Thanks. Given the various random symptoms you describe it's essential to start with the absolute basics before you attempt any changes. No use building a house on sand.

Await result of a disk check.

Live boot disks - e.g. Bob Omb's, Hiren's ... Not that if your PC boots successfully from a live boot disk it would seem likely its hardware is mostly ok - which would leave a question mark over the internal disk (and related interface FWIW).

I agree with house on shaky grounds analogy. So how do i get sentinel on the pc if I cannot access the internet to download it and my ports will not allow me to attach externally? Will I be able to download in safe mode? Can I run the disk check in safe mode?

Either way you will need access to another PC. Again (in slightly more detail and assuming you can't boot):

    - download iso for live boot disk and create the live boot disk e.g. on a flash drive (suitable instructions in Tutorial on creating a Win 10 bootable disk from an iso file) - then boot suspect PC from that
    or
    - remove internal disk from laptop, put it in a caddy and connect it by USB to another PC and so test it.

If you can boot to a command prompt, there's a tutorial on check SMART params, but this is neither as easy or as helpful as the above.

Ok. None of that is easy since I will need to acquire everything you have referenced. I do not have a caddy and I tried to boot from a .iso on a zip drive but the computer said invalid disk. Most likely because I did not change the boot to external so I will have to figure out how to do that again -- the key to strike for my Sony Vaio to change to startup for windows. This is definitely going to take so time for me to acquire the items you mentioned.

A live boot disk - just need a flash drive (or even a DVD.._).

    Access to working PC.

That depends on your PC's BIOS/UEFI. In some cases if you press a certain key during POST a boot menu is displayed. In others you would have to set boot priority so it looks at the flash drive first.
