    Microsoft obviously enjoy creating this sort of confusion ... albeit to a somewhat lesser extent (only 2 instances) with MS Outlook and outlook.com.
    Hotmail -> MSN Hotmail (msn.com) -> Windows Live Mail (live.com) -> Outlook.com

    The only difference I had was Hotmail when it first was available then later got Outlook.com when it was intended to replace Hotmail [which never happened] then finally Windows Live opens both my Hotmail and Outlook.com accounts at Outlook free personal email and calendar from Microsoft. Originally Outlook Express was an installed client program with Windows and Outlook is still the client program usually installed with Office.

    There is zero to show the app has been updated any time recently. It is outdated and even Microsoft suggests Mint as the main alternative.
    Reliability History shows the Money app (Microsoft-BingFinance) is updated regularly most recently on 8 June as shown below.

    Regardless it is just a app that is actually the money .com webpage and nothing to do with the original Money software.

    Berton mentioned the original MS Money program, not me as OP!

    Not talking about evolutionary name changes, I was referring to the similarity - Outlook and outlook !

    Depending on your use case, Mint may or may not be OK.

    I still use Quicken and I pay like through 2 1/2 noses a year for the subscription. I've looked around for alternatives, but there is no other "do it all" program like Quicken. Between checking, savings, credit cards, investments, check writing, decent range of reports, Quicken is "daily driver" software for me. That's me. YMMV.
