    Amazon Photos Keeps Crashing

    Greetings,

I've already tried asking this in the Amazon forum and Reddit. If anyone knows a better forum please let me know.

The Amazon Photos desktop app for Windows keeps shutting down, several times a day. It doesn't give a notification when it stops.

One suggestion is to clear the app cache. How do I do this?

When I restart the Photos app, a folder called GPUCache appears on my desktop. I can't delete it because its locked by AmazonPhotos.exe. Does anyone know anything about this folder?

    Thanks,
    Shane.

If it happens because of the app, you need to remove the app, reboot or use safe mode to remove app and that file.

Just so you know, Amazon's product called the Echo Show will showcase your photos as well...

I have the first generation Echo Show 8 and I think it's a piece of crap. LOL Maybe the newer versions are better, I don't know, but I'm wanting to try an alternative smart speaker called Mycroft.

    You have a program called

"Process Hacker 2" You can use it to close down any program faster then TaskManager.
After you close the program you can delete the folder.

    ..........

What is the purpose of this program/app and how do you use it?

Sounds l like you want all your amazon stuff in one area on your windows desktop. Usually when you log in
to Amazon on your browser any other amazon business you are doing is automatically logged in as well.
Remember Amazon app/program is actually no different then your web browser.. Only difference is that you have
    minimum control over your actions.

If you prefer a web browser I would suggest "Brave" to do your business. But it requires a more robust machine.
Brave is possible the only browser I recommend when dealing with business stuff for a person who does not to get
so technical. As with Edge it is still based on Chrome, but should get you through your Amazon business stuff.

Brave is also based on the Chromium engine. Brave (web browser) - Wikipedia

The ONLY thing I like about Brave is its ability to navigate IPFS domains. Other than that, and it's privacy claims, it's not without the sheer volume of IP traffic pouring out if it like Firefox does.

For privacy sake on the Chromium front I'd say UnGoogled Chromium over at Github. The next contenders would be Pale Moon and LibreWolf.

Pale Moon is my everyday driver unless a website can't render in PM, then I have to launch the website in Firefox or UnGoogled Chromium. It's a pain, but most websites do render in Pale Moon. So I'd call Pale Moon more of a niche browser I guess. I really like PM for its classic XUL usage and classic UI and feel like I was used to back when Firefox wasn't so stupid like it is today. Firefox was my main browser to the max back then. Prior to that I used the Mozilla Suit and Phoenix. Prior to even that I was a hard core Netscape fan and Opera fan. More Netscape though.

    Addendum:

The Brave browser App for Android is great though...

You have to show me some hard results before I make that decision. So far Brave has not steered
    me wrong.

My grandpa that looks at XXX all day long. I installed Brave and removed his other browsers as
being the main browser. All the ads gone, all the fake messages gone. All the nonsense gone.

My mother who does her endless shopping. All the #$@#$@#$ gone.

    .............

I will admit I use a variety of other browsers with script blockers. However when I need something that
is now I go to brave.

Google Chrome is the HTML5 world of today.
    Edge = Chrome
    Samsung Internet = Chrome

The only other choice is FireFox, Waterfox, Baslisk, which are all part of the Netscape family along with
    Safari. That is insane.

    ...............

Modern day internet is dumb. My phone works infinity times faster to load the same exact boring
flat HTML5 pages, I run screaming to the beautiful XP/OS9 years of internet pages.

    ............

Where are the HTML5 browser games ? Where are the colorful life-life animations? Even Unity 3d is
no longer in browsers like before. Just boring 4K videos.

I rather live in my Macromedia world

Amazon Photos is the only service I know of that offers unlimited photo storage for free.

Nothing in life is free. You pay for it some how and in some way. Either directly or indirectly...

Also, don't depend on the cloud for all your photos and whatnot. Have backups at home on several different forms of media. I personally use 2 TB enterprise grade Hitachi platter hard drives, USB drives and optical media. They sell fireproof safe meant for electronics so those are good to have. I have three of them and they're not too terribly expensive either. The whole "safe" aspect of these is not. You can force open one with a flat head screw driver, but they are made out of concrete or whatever and will at least give your precious data some safety if god forbid you have a house fire. They are also waterproof...I think... I have to go back now and look. Fires are mostly put out with water... If you're in a flood prone area and it's flooding, throw all the crap in the dishwasher. THAT is waterproof.

Think of the cloud as a form of augmentation. Nothing more, nothing less. Always have backups of backups and test those backups. I do this all the time.
