Cannot install DELL's SUPPORTASSIST program

A 10 year old PC is no longer supported for updates and in almost every case not supported for Win 10 so no need for SA.

I have a 6 year old Dell laptop (7th gen Intel CPU and Win 10 supported) and SA is of no use for it.

as others have mentioned you don't need these sorts of OEM tools, most of them are junk and they always have bad functionality and most of the time are broken.

Sometimes you may get one that is worth having but this is rare and companies like Dell and HP are at the top of the list in terms of junk waste of time broken and slow apps.

Anytime I needed to see if there were any Dell driver updates, I went to this page

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?app=drivers

And just entered my Service Tag.

There's also a generic Dell Support Assist on that same webpage which can clarify what drivers you need if you download. I even got a BIOS update 8 years after my machine was built.

I let it do it's little scan, see what's missing, fix it, and then delete Support Assist off my computer using Revo. But whatever way works for you.

Because I haven't seen any traces of it when I do.

Not to mention carefully removing any leftover registry entries.

I didn't try that. I had a problem with Dell SA causing a BSOD of a friend's laptop. The problem was that Dell Datavault was left behind after uninstalling Dell SA. See Dell Laptop Crashing Problems

Try Advanced mode. Be careful when you delete all those registry entries that are in bold. And just in case, back up your registry to your desktop if need be, beforehand.

I also delete all leftover files and folders associated with the program that Revo picks up.
