I'm still chasing spellcheck for OpenOffice Writer

Install LibreOffice instead. Everything should work.

Spell chequers do knot all weighs check four homonyms.

Use a decent package that checks grammar etc. as well (MS Word for example). However, there is still no substitute for proper proof reading.

LibreOffice Writer does.....

..and it also does grammar. At least it should
