Recomend free programs for Win 10 to check registry and shortcuts

    Hi,

    Win 10 Pro 21H2 19044.2604

My Avast and Avira keep telling me I have umpteen shortcuts and broken registry items etc so wondered if you recommend ways to clean without having to enrich the rich.

    Thanks

Avast and Avira are both free Anti-Virus apps. When you install a 3rd party AV app, it disables Windows Security (Defender) which is a part of Windows and is all you really need and it's free. You can only have 1 AV program on your computer, to monitor Anti-Virus. the others will be disabled for that function. We strongly suggest that you Uninstall these Apps with their Uninstall programs available on their web sites and just use Windows Security (Defender)
We do not recommend Registry Optimizer/ Cleaners these cause more problems then they solve. Many times 3rd party apps list registry settings as false positives and delete needed files. It's best to ignore these messages unless a specific app or Windows is not working correctly.

Two AV programs on 1 PC????

Ignore the broken registry items. E.g. if you uninstall programs without routinely using a 3rd party uninstaller e.g. Revo, Geek then weaknesses in installers/uninstallers will leave debris behind. Cleaning it gains nothing- only exposes you to risk.

As for shortcuts: You could try Glary Utilities Shortcut Fixer
Shortcuts Fixer – Glarysoft Knowledge Base

Not sure if it's available free- the program is often given away so I have a Pro version anyway.
