    running an older program

i have win10 64 bit 21h2 19044.2604 anyway i want to run an old drafting program that tells me my os is not compatible. the last os i used this program on was win7 the pc that os is on is now long gone. is there a way to get that program to run on win10? i have to draw a truss for the township to get a permit to make a mod to the truss and i just do not want to go thru a new learning curve with a new drafting program. this program has my truss in it and i can load it and then make changes and print it.

i tired to find truss programs but none of them want to let me draw the truss. plus they have terminology i do not know but i do not need to learn the terms i just need to draw the plans on a drafting program per the townships requirements or i would just hand draw it. i guess drawing it on a program means it will work better than hand drawing it.

so if there is a way to get a program to run in a prior version in win10 i need to find that way. i tried right click on the exe and properties and then run in win7 compatibility and it failed so i did something wrong
    thanks

There is a way, and everyone here will probably echo what I'm about to say. Run Windows 7 in what is called a Virtual Machine.
A virtual machine is software that allows you to run Windows withen Windows. I personally use VMware Workstation Player. It's free and should get the job done.

Very easy really to do this.

How to Install Windows 7 in VMware Workstation - YouTube

The download links are dead now. If you have the Windows 7 disk that'll work. Even if you need a 30 day window without a product key it'll work.

Scroll to the bottom. Current version is 17. Download VMware Workstation Player | VMware

Make sure you install VMware Tools once Windows 7 is installed in VMware Workstation Player. That will allow you to copy/paste between the guest (VMware) and the host (your computer).

Windows 7 can be had on the Internet. Someone else will have to share a link because I don't know of any off hand right now.

I'm afraid it's not going to be as simple as using compatibility and other trickery. If the VMware route is too complex, then find a computer with Windows 7.

I have an old version of Delta CAD on my Win10, think it's Version 3. It came from my granddaughter's computer from over 10 years ago. It's still showing on the 'net as Shareware [much the same as Trial versions], could install it for the need then uninstall it.

thanks but then i have to draw everything over again. i may give it a try. on the draft choice program i have all those elements saved i used it years ago to make the plans for my house i built 30 years ago and then i saved all those elements for future needs. well now it is a future need and it will not run anymore.

if that delta cad has some of the elements in its logs that may save a ton of time.

UPDATE: I had some time [our whole state is shut down] and just checked for a download of Version10, seems it's been withdrawn except for previously registered, sorry about that.

yes i just tried and it said discontinued. thanks anyway for sending me that. one guy said i may be able to do a vm and install win7 but i do not have win7 anymore. it may run in linux but it is nto worth the trouble setting all that up for one truss. i might as well pay an engineer to draw it for me.
    thanks
