Why does CrystalDiskInfo see my dying HDD as good?

All HDDs get some uncorrectable errors but things like CHKDSK mark those sections as such and OS knows not to write to them. However there comes a point where there are too many and CrystalDiskInfo starts to object.

At a level of 5, I would say drive is still ok, but you should monitor regularly in cases things deteriorate.

Of course, you should always backup any drive in case of failure.

HDDs are made with spare sectors. As long as you have enough good sectors equivalent to the advertised disk capacity, potentially your drive is fully usable.

Try Hard Disk Sentinel for a more informative appraisal.
