My Windows 95 is the real thing running in a VirtualBox VM. No crashes, and can even go on my network.

Just for laughs (and nostalgia) I also have a WfW 3.11 VM that I can also put on my network.

This rather reminds me of the "Dub Club" which for our friends across the Pond and Down Under is an enthusiast club for owners of ancient Volkswagen Beetles. Having driven one years ago (not mine), I cannot imagine why people would be enthusiastic of a cramped, uncomfortable, basic featured and low performance car) even at its hey day.

I kind of think the same about running old operating systems.

I guess (mixing my metaphor) "Nostalgia is in the eye of the beholder".

My other car is a Mk1 Mini from the '60's...

OK - much of the same points as for the DUB but being low on ground, it was more like a go-cart and you could really throw them around - fun. Of course, the Mini changed car design completely as the first transverse engine design. The sheer genius of rotating engine by 90 degrees and front wheel drive revolutionised cars enabling them to be built at much lower costs and within the public's budget.

I guess that was true for Windows 95 as well.

I have the disks for WFW 3.11 and MS-DOS 6.x but also have WinImage backups of them.

I have an old Toshiba Laptop with MS-DOS 5 and Win3.1.

As for Win95 in a VM, I'd rather have Win98SE as it added support for the drivers included with USB 2 devices at the time.

Old hardware that is now an oddity, I still have a USB Iomega Zip drive.

An oldie, I have Win3.x File Manager running on Win11 and Win10.

On the general theme of "Windows 95" (spoiler) on modern hardware... GitHub - grassmunk/Chicago95: A rendition of everyone's favorite 1995 Microsoft operating system for Linux.

In a few years time some will be running Windows 10 on a VM looking back with nostalgia on how much time they frittered away on this forum!
