    Looking for a Wordpad alternative

I like to write short stories, and use Wordpad as a word processor with Windows 10.
But there are a few things that I'm not happy with and ask if anyone has any suggestions for something other than Wordpad, "free" and something an old idiot could install/download, that they think might be a better choice for a Word processor.

I have little experience of it but another user on another forum was extolling the virtues of Jarte.

    1. A free word processor based on the Microsoft WordPad word processing engine built into Windows. 2. A fast starting, easy to use word processor that expands well beyond the WordPad feature set. 3. A small, portable, touch enabled word processor whose documents are fully compatible with Word and WordPad.
    Hope this helps...

If you were to give some hints as to what you're not happy with and what you actually need suitable options could be provided otherwise everything offered could be also unsuitable.

    I agree with cereberus.

If you do not want to spend a long time on the decision, just install LibreOffice then you can just get on with your stories.

If you did spend longer on the decision then you might find something simpler but not necessarily better.

    All the best,

Libre Office is about as good as it gets for free (or even paid)

What @z3r010 said. WordPad is the successor to the old Write of Windows 3.x and LibreOffice is nearly as complete as Microsoft Office, just doesn't include an E-Mail Client or Publisher. LO can open a large number of file formats, last one I had to deal with was a client that received attachments of .pages files from a Mac and a number of my older clients had recipes from the defunct Microsoft Works that LO can open and convert.
