    Wordpad Not Responding in Windows10

I've just finished a full Windows10 reinstall and have an issue...
I use Wordpad a LOT and it now takes several minutes to launch it with a 'not responding' error message.
Same happens if I try to exit or save a Wordpad rtf file.
When this happened after the reinstall, I did a 2nd Windows reinstall, just to be sure it wasn't a bad install.
I've run a Windows file integrity check and all is well. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the Wordpad App.
    Any thoughts please?

Sometimes the cause could be a conflict with the printer drivers...

Do a test by pressing Ctrl + R and type write, press Enter, see if the same issue occurs. Write is WordPad, a hold-over file name from much earlier versions of Windows such as 3.1 back in early '90s. The file write.exe is in C:\Windows.

I think you maybe mean the Windows key and R, but yes the same thing happens. App starts ok but sits with 'not responding' for a few mins
I'll try removing the divers for my Printer, although its Canon not Brother as per the others

Oops, mis-typed. The description suggests that maybe WordPad is looking for a file or an unsaved file, have seen other programs do that. In an Admin Command Prompt I'd run sfc /scannow which looks for corrupt or missing files.

Well, you're certainly on to something. Uninstalling the printer drivers did not work. HOWEVER, if I turn the printer ON, Wordpad launches just fine. How bizarre. I guess Wordpad is attempting to talk to the printer at startup?
I really don't want to leave the printer on all the time lol
I've already tried the scan and it did find a corrupt file, but didnt fix the problem

Even more strange, is this is happening after a fresh Windows install, so I doubt its looking for a file.

It's possible WordPad is enumerating resources it has to work with but maybe an unfinished print job is involved.

If the printer is of the last several years there should be no issue leaving it on as they have a power save or sleep feature. I leave both of mine on with their blinking power light as I never know which computer will want to print to either, they are networked.

Guess I'll have to do that. Seems strange though as its never happened before. Really appreciate the help here as I'd NEVER have guessed about the printer lol

I suppose you could try changing the default printer.. but I assume you also print from Wordpad.

Personally I find its insistent double spacing annoying, so use other things.

I remove the default setting of 'Add 10pt space after paragraph' to get rid of that annoyance.
