    How Can I Be Sure What The Region Of A DVD Code Is ?

    I have a commercial dvd that I would like to send to a relative.

    I am in region 2 and my relative is in region 4 (Australia).

    I only have the DVD in a sleeve and there is no indication on it as to which regions it will play in.

    I have looked on the Internet for a solution but there doesn't see to be a definitive solution. I would also prefer not to download software that I am not familiar with.

    Is their a feature in Windows that would state the region, or that it was region "free" ?
    Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

    The code may be on the disk itself:

    7 day trial of this:

    There is no intrinsic support in Win 10 for playing (movie/film) type DVDs, so you'd have to download something.

    Create a System Restore point before installing it.. and remove it with that (or with a 3rd party uninstall tool e.g. Revo, Geek uninstaller) if you want to be sure nothing's left.

    More options (maybe): (but this is a VERY old answer!)

    Hello @mike888,

    If you wanted to find out which region formats are supported, Copy & Paste the following commands into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    The first command will list ALL the regions, and the second command will give you a Count of those regions.

    Code:

    PowerShell "[System.Globalization.CultureInfo]::GetCultures('AllCultures').DisplayName | Sort"
    PowerShell "[System.Globalization.CultureInfo]::GetCultures('AllCultures').DisplayName.Count"

    I hope this helps.

    Paul- isn't that by the O/S- rather than the region code of a particular DVD?

    Yes, my fault. I have just re-read my source information.

    I always used this simple piece of software on my PC, then you could rip dvd and recreate a region free version.

    Just a moment...

    dalchina's posted link provides a solution, WinDVD will identify the region.

    WinDVD will tell you this under "Configuration".
    DVD Info Pro will also do this - despite it looking like it costs, on the left side of their site you can get it for free.
    DVD Identifier is also free and will provide this information.
    (They did not mention VLC - it was around at that time)

    Just as an aside, I've looked through a pile of DVDs and several of their boxes were marked Region 2+4 (PAL) so you might be in luck.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Thanks for your suggestions.
    However the download link provided is not one known to me.
    It is interesting to see that downloads for WinDVD (free) is not available from the major download sites.
    Even though "filehippo" has an option to download the free version, the page redirects to the main pro version with no apparent link on the WinDVD page for downloading the free version, you can make of that what you will. In my case I will avoid.

    I did try MPHC to get the region code even using its own media info tool with no success.

    In the end I have packaged a spare all region DVD for my relative.
