    OneDrive - Should I trust it? Win 10 22H2

I am having issues with the OneDrive app. I am sure that's because I don't really know how to use it. I could remedy that I guess, but I have a problem giving up privacy for a little more security.

Why should I trust Microsoft and the government with access to all my files?

I am somewhat miffed by Microsoft's policy of locking out earlier versions of CPU's with the requirement to have a TPM module to run W11 and I don't care for their forced obsolescence of this machine (Alienware 17 R2)

I don't like the fact that MS will delete files from your hardware if you delete them on OneDrive.

Your comments and advice are needed and welcome.

I wouldn't touch OneDrive with a 10 foot pole... but that's just me.

Many people find Onedrive irritating in its (dis)functional behaviour and prefer to remove it.

Some describe it as having 'tentacles'.
If you wish to remove it, as I've posted in another thread in the last day on this, first disable Onedrive and remove its integration with your system, and check you have your data where you want it, before finally uninstalling it.

Why should I trust Microsoft and the government with access to all my files?
Then you won't use ANY form of cloud service, email, synching - or indeed the internet... I just heard that when they develop and deploy quantum computing they'll be abe to decode anything and track you anywhere.. wherever you leave a digital footprint.. so you're definitely digitally doomed!

Shouldn't that read 'Microsoft OR the government'? (What's the goverment got to do with this? I certainly don't trust my government so much now).

As for Win 11- plenty of posts on how to bypass those restrictions e.g. one on Ventoy recently on tenforums- that's if you care to search tenforums of course..

What has the government go to do with it - that is just perpetual bs spreads by conspiracy theorists.

Any cloud service has access to files on its service - how is MS any different? I would trust MS over many other services - there has not been a single recorded cases of MS using data nefariously.

Also, you can turn off file syncing so if you delete files from a cloud service, file remains on local drive.

Also comments on TPM have nothing to do with Onedrive.

You second sentence sums your attitude up.

I am sure that's because I don't really know how to use it.

The solution to all your problems is LEARN

    Your condescension is duly noted.

The troubling problem with "conspiracy theories" is they have a habit of turning out to be true. But that's a discussion for another day.

As far as TPM is concerned, I can't upgrade W10 to W11 on this machine without TPM (so says MS).

As far as your comment relative to LEARN, I will do that, but not from you I suppose.

I do appreciate your willingness to respond to my post.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

    @EJett
You can always find excuses to trust onedrive, but you can also find excuses not to trust it.
which excuses would do you trust?

ex. person A says yes, person B says no, whom to trust it then up to you isn't?
But I know your choice would be person B because you're looking for excuses not to trust it right?

Here is opinion of person C (me), I encrypt my files and put them to one drive, this way I know nobody can sniff on my data and also I take what's free - onedrive service.

See my (unacknowledged) post.. and a little initiative and you can find ways to work around those limits.

    1 way:
Ventoy bypasses Windows 11 hardware & account requirement by default

There are more.. just search tenforums etc.

Actually members here including myself try to help people learn if they ask nicely. Why not start off reading the onedrive tutorials in the tutorial section?

I use OneDrive fine for sharing non-sensitive files between my PCs but not not store sensitive data there.
