Personally I have my own backup solutions and I don't like OneDrive. I wish it wasn't so integrated into the OS (especially W11 but too much for my personal liking in W10). I tend to do just a personal data backup of my OS drive instead of full images (personally I use Personal Backup for that), so restoring is more of a manual PITA since I unlink and uninstall OneDrive early on in the After Installation process.

But YMMV - if you like OneDrive then more power to you. It's not something that I personally like to use.

Skimmed thru this topic. I use Onedrive quite bit to share large files with others, not just for backup. I get the paranoia surrounding these cloud services but I don't see it as any diff than iDrive or Google Photos/Drive auto backing up your phone photos/files. Those are 'integrated' much deeper than Onedrive into the phone OS and you have more control over Onedrive. Just my opinion. Cheers

Actually members here including myself try to help people learn if they ask nicely. Why not start off reading the onedrive tutorials in the tutorial section?
I apologize Cereberus if I offended you. And I have been reading and studying the tutorials on OneDrive posted here. Thanks for your help.

What has the government go to do with it - that is just perpetual bs spreads by conspiracy theorists.

Any cloud service has access to files on its service - how is MS any different? I would trust MS over many other services - there has not been a single recorded cases of MS using data nefariously.
Visit Microsoft's Law Enforcement Requests Report and download the latest report that shows how many times Microsoft gave up customer data as a result of requests - 168 times from January to June 2022 alone. It may not be 'nefarious' but it does happen.

I was careful to say nefarious as opposed to legal requirements in pursuit of criminal investigations.

That legal requirement presumably exists for all other companies like Apple.

There is a huge difference between spying (unknown access to your data) and access via legal data requests. I personally have no problem with this as anything that can provide evidence to prosecute criminals is fair game. It is no different to a search warrant in my opinion.

The whole MS and governments are spying on you nonsense is so old and tedious now - people need to get a grip.
