How To Totally Eliminate OneDrive ?

    Hello,

    Happy Holidays to all.

After a power glitch, had to re-install w10.
    Have it working again.

    But-

The re-install apparently put One-Drive on my pc.

It's causing me all sorts of problems.

How do I TOTALLY eliminate it from pc ?

    If/when I do, will I lose anything ?
The reason I ask is that it seems the path to most every Folder seems to show One Drive
    in the path name.

Thoughts on this "possibility" would also be appreciated, as I would hate to lose anything due to eliminating One Drive.

    Thanks; appreciate the help,
    Bob

simply uninstall it in programs and features in control panel.

you won't lose files stored online by one drive, not sure if those stored locally in one drive folder are lost.

    How do you do this?

Be careful... disable it and remove its integration with your files.

Turn On or Off OneDrive PC Folder Backup Protection in Windows 10
    Enable or Disable OneDrive Integration

    Then uninstall it.
    Uninstall OneDrive in Windows 10

Those 3 are from the searchable tutorial section- did you consider searching that? Do have a look if you're not familiar with it.

Make a backup first and ensure files being synched are where you want them before uninstalling it.

You are , of course, using 3rd party disk imaging regularly... aren't you?

If you were, you wouldn't have had to do a clean install- and would have saved a lot of time...

    Hi,

    Thanks.

Would appreciate any suggestions for the "Disk Imaging" software you mentions.

Sr. Citizen now, very, so a key word should be "simple".

Not too sharp with this "stuff" anymore, I hate to admit.

Thanks, and a Happy New Year,
    Bob

Ok, easiest (simplest GUI) is Aomei Backupper.

For the O/S - simply put, when you create a disk image of your whole O/S, the program creates a file which is a compressed copy of the used parts of the partitions imaged.

The first image file is all of that data.
Subsequently, these programs let you create a 'differential' image - representing the difference between your original image file and 'now' - so that's a smaller file and takes less time.

    Once you have
    first image file
    diff1 file
    diff2 file
    diff3 file

    - for example, each created on a different date, you have then 4 past dates to which you can restore any or all of the partitions you imaged.

    Note the obvious impact:
All data - including any personal data- on the partitions restored- as well as any settings held in that partition - will then be as at the date the image was created.

Image files should be stored on EXTERNAL storage e.g. a large enough USB disk (I use a 2TB HDD).

What does imaging protect you from?
    - your own mistakes
    - ransomware
    - theft
    - disk failure

Files can be extracted from image files, which can be mounted and access via file explorer.

Potentially you could restore the image files of your O/S to a new PC and have it up and running exactly as was.

The free version of Aomei Backupper should be quite good enough.

Best in class- generally considered to be Macrium Reflect (licensed) - although the free version is good enough for many.

You may also come across 'incremental' imaging which all these programs support- though whether it's in the free version or not varies.. you can use Google to find out more.

Youtube has helpful videos on these - they also have their own help files.

    Aomei Backupper is Chinese
    Macrium Reflect is UK based.
