Is there any reason to use adobe pdf reader?

It seems that microsoft edge can now view pdf files. What would be a good reason to use the adobe pdf reader these days?

There can be a reason to use a pdf reader but I would never suggest Adobe. Adobe used to be so awkward that I stopped using it almost a decade ago.

Despite all the naysayers, Adobe Acrobat Reader is not a bad tool and has quite a few useful features for annotating. Sure there are lots of alternatives, but it still does more than just basic reading of Edge.

Using 1GB app to open 1MB file, it it takes about 10 times longer just to open the app itself.

Not for me, I have Adobe Acrobat on a couple of computers and Corel Fusion on one. Readers are fine but not much else can be done to a .pdf file. Historically, at least 30 years ago, the PDF/Portable Document File was useful for sharing documents with offices that did not all have the same program that created them, some would have Word, some WordPerfect, some AmiPro/WordPro, etc. The companies could create/convert their documents to .pdf using the expensive Adobe Acrobat and send to offices which would have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and all could read the same thing but couldn't change it, great for contracts, handbooks, personnel documents, etc.

I said why - it has a few useful tools for annotating pdfs. There are many tools out there - I have just got used to this as it is the only one my company allows other than Edge for general use.

I have a much more powerful editing too that is far ahead of anything else but it is expensive to licence but only a few of us are allowed it for our work needs.

Adobe Reader is bloatware. Edge or Chrome are fine for just reading pdf files. I often print web pages to a pdf file to save them.

I've always found Acrobat Reader the best to fill out PDF forms, I've tried others but I prefer Acrobat.

Huh - bloatware is unwanted software. You cannot describe it as bloatware unless it is installed by default by Windows which is not the case.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is more than a simple reader. It allows users to annotate pdfs, filling out forms (as @z3r010 says), sign pdfs etc..

I have seen cases where Edge (or other tools) does not properly render pdfs - Adobe Acrobat Reader always works - after all pdf format is Adobe's invention.
