    News and Interests?

Since the latest update (feature), News and Interest icon appears in taskbar. This feature is OK! But occasionally the Memory on my 8 core desktop PC spikes at 98% and everything slows down to a crawl.
The only way to correct this is to end the News and Interest task in Task Manager or restart Windows?

Is there a way to disable this feature permanently, or stop it spiking?

Hi, from the searchable Tutorial section (do have a look - very useful) - please see
How to Enable or Disable News and Interests on Taskbar in Windows 10

(I've not noticed any CPU usage issues- occasionally the N&I pane 'sticks' - no way to get rid of it without e.g. logging off/on. Not even killing the related task helps completely.

Thank you for helping dalchina I appreciate your help!

I actually like News and Interests, it's the occasional spike I don't need.
It only happens when I leave the computer running for some time (2 hours or more), News and Interests is not selected during that time, but when I return sometimes not always the News and Interests has taken almost all my Memory (I apologise in my first post I said CPU, but it is my Memory (32 gig) that spikes to 98%). Normally my memory usage is never more than 11%.

Are you certain that's related to N&I?

Have you examined what processes are actually using your RAM?

If you think it's N&I, why not temporarily disable it and see if the same still occurs?

That is exactly what I did do! N&I was using 26.75 gig of ram, ending the task immediately brought the memory usage back down to normal levels. No other Process was using more than normal amounts of ram? And N&I was not in use at the time.

I have no doubt that N&I is the problem!

Let's put this another way- I've seen no other such reports, so I suggest you need to perform some experiments to see if you can determine what is triggering this.

Further, try using e.g. Process Explorer to get perhaps a better view - no screenshots showing what is happening.

    Then perhaps something starts this.

Either by analysis (from the very technical and complete log provided by ProcMon (process monitor) - both free from MS - or by a somewhat 'trial and error' approach using elimination - try to find a primary cause or trigger.

And actually what you did is not what I suggested.

To turn off "News and interests"
    1. Right-click on taskbar
    2. Select News and interests
    3. Make sure Turn off is checked

A few months ago another annoying thing was added to Windows called "Search highlights"

    To turn off "Search highlights"
    1. Right-click on taskbar
    2. Select Search
    3. Make sure Show search highlights is unchecked

Sorry for the late response (family problems), the same problem occurred again in exactly the same way. Left the PC running for a couple of hours, News and Interests was not active, came home tried to browse various folders on the desktop and everything ran as if it was stuck in treacle. Went to Task Manager and News and Interests was using 26+ gig of memory even though I was not using it. For some reason the App seems to be accumulating memory and not freeing it? Process Explorer gave me the same details as Task Manager.
After shutting down the N&I process everything returned to normal. I went through every entry in Process Explorer but nothing seemed to be acting improperly?

Anyway, for the time being I have disabled N&I until someone else reports this problem? I can't be the only one!
