    Unable to install Windows Calculator

I went through my Apps & Features one day and deleted apps that I didn't think I would need. I didn't think I'd need Microsoft Store, since, I thought, on the rare occasion that I need an app from there, I could just go to the store's website and download it. Well, then Windows Calculator wouldn't open or repair, so I decided to reinstall it. I removed it went to the store's site, and found that I couldn't get it without the store app. So I repaired it from Apps & Features, and it opens, but whenever I click the button to get the Calculator app, it closes and won't let me download it. Does anyone know how I can reinstall the Calculator? Thank you!

    Hello @Meisha,

For information, regardless of how many Apps someone uninstalls, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to LEAVE the Store App intact.

With that said, and as a start, have a look at these . . .

    > How to Re-Register Microsoft Store App in Windows 10
    > OPTION TWO - To Reinstall and Re-register Specific App for Current Account

    I hope this helps.

Thanks, Paul! I'll give it a go. Update: No, it's still the same. I tried a few times. Are there any other possibilities? Thank you!

    Calculator

See if you have calc.exe in \windows\system32\ . If you do use this.

Thank you, Br0die! Yes, it's there, but when I try to launch it, it says I need another app to open it with a link to Microsoft Store. When I click that link, the store app opens, shows me the Windows Calculator page, then crashes. But I have installed a third party calculator, MoffCalc, which I like, but still at some point I'll probably need the store app to work, so I'm hoping there's a way to get it functioning again.

To fix the store... do Solution #9, here... Windows 10 Store not Installed [FIXED] - Appuals.com

After Solution #9 step 9, open Power Shell again and run this command... Set-ExecutionPolicy Restricted

Hi Ghot! OK, I get it now! I didn't read the second step until I got to it ;-) So I did all that, and it's still the same. The MS Store opens, acts like everything is good, but after I search Calculator (or anything) and go to the Calculator download page, the store crashes. I appreciate your help, though! :)

The easiest thing to do then, is to do an In-Place upgrade.
This will fix Windows problems, but leave your programs and files untouched.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.
The ISO must be created in the same language as you are using in Windows, to be able to keep your Programs and Files.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Yes, C:\windows\system32\calc.exe has a hidden redirection to the app.
This was put in sometime during 2018.

Whilst I think it's worth carrying on following the guidance the others are giving you about restoring the MSStore app, you can use the Windows 7 Calculator in the meantime [or instead].
    Win7Calculator.zip
UnZip it to wherever you want then create a shortcut to its calc.exe file in the normal manner.
    - UnZipping it will create a sub-folder en-US with a file calc.exe.mui in it. That is normal [and essential].
This utility was rescued using @EdTittel's guidance in Rescue Old Windows 10 Applications from Oblivion - WED

Thank you, Ghot! When you say I'll lose some of my personalizations, will I lose custom themes that saved in the Themes settings?

Thank you, Denis! I'm happy to have this calculator app! :)
