How to install new version of My Phone Explorer

There is an update (v 2) for MPE but I have not been able to download it. Sometimes I cannot find it or if I find a relevant page, even one with the correct link (ie.not one that downloads a wrong app) trying to download from it has failed, so far. Some guidance would be appreciated. The update seems to have useful new features but mot of all I hope it will have done something to improve connection between PC and Phone, it is still hit & miss for me. At the moment it will not connect via USB which should be straight forward.

Update. A further attempt was straightforward and successful. v2 does seem smother and it connected right away via the USB cable it could not connect with, only a short while before.

The FJSoft site MyPhoneExplorer has a download link [to FossHub, as always].

At FossHub, the text in green is not a header, it's the download link itself.
    It downloads MyPhoneExplorer_Setup_2.0.exe [19.3MB]

Oh, I've just seen your --- Updated --- entry.

By the way, you are always welcome to type @Try3 in any of your MPE threads so that I am notified of them. I will always subscribe to your MPE threads and I will always try to help with MPE issues.

    All the best,

Hello Denis and thanks for your offer to help with MPE issues

I am afraid my immediate optimism about v2 was misplaced. True, it now seems to run more smoothly and I have already made good use of the new Bookmarks feature, but alas getting MPE to connect reliably to my phone is still as difficult as ever. Numerous attempts to connect using each of the options results in a variety of error notifications, including the unhelpful 'CMOS error', 'no USB device connected', phone address failure (I have rechecked the address is correct) and more. On one occasion, testing by sending a message to myself, it completed but the message has not arrived. I find the USB issue particularly annoying, being told there is no USB connected when it plainly is ( a related question: I see that my phone is also being charged while USB is plugged in so is it OK for the two functions to run together?). One small thing that does help is the new one,the Bookmark to run the Multi sSnc as I have found this is often the best way to get the app connected.

I spend (waste?) a lot of time on this issue with MPE which I would not do where it not for the fact that potentially it is one of the very best apps I have, not so much as a messenger as for the numerous other functions it can carry out. If I could rely on it, I could use it as a 'central HUB' for much of what I do.

Did you go ahead and ask for help in MPE forums as we discussed?

MPE has always worked fine for me.
    - My only gripe has been that I often have to change its WiFi hotspot IP address in the File, Settings, Connection dialog [but never had to do this until a year or so ago].

I'm going to try v2 sometime this week

I have tried to open the Forum some time ago but could not get in. I will try again.

This seems strange (and annoying). I have been trying to send messages, mostly to myself, sometimes to family. Virtually all fail but two things seem very odd to me. As well as the feedback from the app on my PC I get it on my phone, thus (1) my phone pings etc (2) my phone shows the message in red--- as failed, and cannot be opened or replied to. So it MUST BE CONNECTING but not in a useful way. It seems to me a bit like a Catch 22 situation, I can connect MPE to my phone but only to be told it cannot connect!? What I think of this is not suitable to be in print.

    I'm not ignoring you.
I just cannot think of anything helpful to suggest.

When you were clearing out & reinstalling, did you go to
    C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer
    to remove the contents?
That will allow a complete start-from-scratch.

    I include
    C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer
in my backing up whenever I change anything in MPE.
Its general.ini contains the MPE application settings.
In the sub-folder, the settings.dat contains the syncing settings for that phone. There is a separate sub-folder for each phone.
Both files are readable & editable in Notepad [while MPE is closed].

I also use them to set up MPE in my other computers.
    - I set MPE up on one of them & copy those files across to it.
    - At times like this [installing a new MPE version on a new computer], I will read & compare its default general.ini & settings.dat to check for any structural changes rather and, possibly, copy individual lines from the old computer's files instead of copying the whole files across.

I've just tried sending a message from MPE on the computer to my own phone [probably for the first time].
It was received correctly and it displays correctly.

I need to read through your replies again. However, I think this may change the picture somewhat:
Update. I now know the problem 'must' be with the phone, rather than MPE. I say this because all (four) of my messaging apps are failing in a similar way. In addition to MPE they are Windows Phone Link, MightyText, and WhatsApp! I have a small doubt about this conclusion because I seem to be getting some success using my Android Tablet with WhatsApp at least, I have it, plus MightyText, on my Tablet. If they are OK using the Tablet it seems unlikely to lie with the phone itself?

And there is more. My phone now has screens of failed test/text messages sent from myself from 3 of the apps. Many of the attempted messages are shown, in red along with a notification that they have failed or not sent! --- how can a failed message have failed if it shows up as failed, not only on the sending device but on the intended receiving device? It seems a bit like a Catch 22 situation

When I have time I will try more test/checks to confirm or otherwise

Resetting your phone is an option.
That makes it reload the entire OS so any faults that have crept in get overwritten.
Reset procedures vary. On mine, I start a reset in Settings, About phone, Factory reset.
