with new computer how to install software that was a download and i

so I get a new rig and want to install a program that I downloaded (video creating) and got a serial number but no install disk of the old kind. can I copy it off the old computer? there is a 6 gb file with a video_program_install.exe. is that the one so Id just click that on the new computer and register it after it installed and the installed program would be complete?

also, the video editor has parked all kinds of files on the old computer in places unknown to me. on the new computer those will all be lost. fatal?

would be moving from win 10 to 11. thanks for the suggestions.

The file you downloaded should be the installation file that you need to run to install it. It will put whatever it wants wherever it wants without your having to do anything other than enter that serial number when it tells you to.

    All the best,

You should be able to download the installer from the program's website.
It may want you to make an account if you didn't already do so.

As for finding the old parked files... perform a search for their file extensions. Like *.mp4 or what ever you saved them as. The "asterisk" will find ALL the .mp4 files, for example.

If you mean that's the installer for the video editing program, and is a file on your old PC, then you can copy that file to your new PC and install the program on your new PC... assuming it's compatible with Win 10.

(You don't say how old the program is or which O/S is running on your old PC).

As to whether it is indeed the installer for that program- simply double click it and you should see a window that tells you.. and of course you can check the properties of that file by right clicking it.

Depends what you mean, and whether these are important.

The only ones that might matter to you are videos you've completed. Hopefully you know where those are and have been disciplined as to where you put them.

Any temporary files it created are irrelevant.
