    Welcome to tenforums.

An important hint- so that you get the right people to look at your thread...and more of them... give it an appropriate title.
People will only give it one glance.

    E.g.

    <name of program> <say what it does> <won't work on Win 10>

Honestech vhs to dvd 3 se problem.

Hello. My problem is that i have started using Honestech vhs to dvd 3 SE kit to transfer vhs video from an old Phillips vhs recorder to a windows 10 (64bit) laptop. When i bought the kit recently off ebay it was claimed that the software was compatible with windows 10. However, on trying to install the software on win 10 64bit i was greeted with the message"Honestech vhs to dvd 3 SE App burnpak access is denied"! For some reason the software is being prevented from installing. This is frustrating as with my old windows 7 laptop it worked perfectly. However, my old laptop does not work properly anymore. Is there a way around the above problem to make the software acceptable to windows 10 (64 bit). If not, do you know of any other software i could install that is compatible with windows 10 64bit without being to expensive.
Many thanks for your help from a frustrated pc user!

    Hi, you might try:
Error 5, Access is Denied while installing software on Windows 11/10

If it's an older program, you may need to use compatibility mode when installing it or running it.

    A quick search =>

    and

    - search the manual for
    access denied

Is there a way around the above problem
    Install windows 7.

    Should be child's play.

What is the exact model name and number of the laptop ?

As Dalchina suggests, try the compatibility mode workarounds. I've had some success doing this in the past with some old software such as Corel Graphics Suite V 11 and older. Eventually though some things just may not install anymore such as I ran into with a serial port driver for a Wacom graphics tablet. We eventually gave up and junked the tablet. Good luck.

Please note - you are using a very old version.

The current version is v7. As such you may well have problems with compatibility.

You could, if you don't have a Win 7 PC, install Win 7 as a virtual machine under, say, VirtualBox (free) and see if you can then use it. You will need to be able to cope with anything that arises as aresult of using it in a VM which requires appropriate configuration.

Hello. Thank you for the info on honestech vhs to dvd 3 se software install. Unfortunately, i am at a loss because i cannot install the program in the first place and therefore cannot get to the .exe file and apply compatibility mode. Someone has to guide me through this as i cannot understand how to use compatibility mode or the solution to this if i cannot install the software in the first place! How can you use compatibility mode when there is no software installed on the hard drive . What does "App burnpack access is denied" mean anyway?
    Thanks for your help.

As for compatibility mode: inspect the installer you are using.

If it's got an exe file you can right click that , click Troubleshoot compatibility, work thru what it says, and try installing in the appropriate compatibility mode.

    You are mixing up
    - installing a program in compatibility mode
    and
    - running an installed program in compatibility mode

Error messages specific to the structure of the particular program are... particular to that program... and not a general Windows message.

That you can use Google for.

Please study the links I posted above which I found for you.

Remember, you are choosing to try to use a program designed for - I think it was XP and 2000 if I recall this one
    correctly.

It may or may not be possible to run this on Win 10. IF not, I suppose you could run it on, say Windows XP in a virtual machine running under Windows 10, using e.g. VirtualBox (free).

Why not get the current version?
