Hi, FWIW if I edit a jpg file with MSpaint in Win10 the font seems fine- here's a screenshot from an edited and saved jpg file:

How did you reinstate MSpaint? I understand a version is available from the Store.

I did it like this, I think:

I have never seen anybody post a method of changing MSPaint's default font, which is what I think you are referring to.
    - Whenever you use the text function for the first time in an MSPaint session, it will default to Calbri font.
    - After that first use of text, if you change the font then further text will be in the newly-chosen font. But when you close and re-open MSPaint, it will default to Calibri again.

There are TenForums members who mess about changing system fonts.
Your use of the word "font" in your question title might attract their attention.
I would not be surprised if one of them has worked out how to do it but, as I say, I have never seen any method posted.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

    @Try3 - isn't this the problem reported:

the moment i start typing the font resets to calibri.
    - rather than the question of which font is the default when Paint is launched?

I think you missunderstand my issue, i don't want to change the default font.
For example i have a screenshot on my desktop right now, when i rightklick on that and select edit it will automatically open in mspaint.exe. Then i can choose the text format from the menu, within the text menu i can scrol down and see many different fonts that are already present on windows by default. So when i klick on one of those fonts, that font will now be active and i can use it to type text, however this is how it normally worked but now as soon as i start typing the selected font changes to calibri so i am unable to type in any other font than calibri.

For example, on the screenshot i want to use arial black font which is preinstalled in windows, but when i start typing calibri becomes active instead of arial black, how can i fix this?

I take it your comment is directed to Try3...

I clearly showed in post #2 I can type in various fonts... which is exactly what you can't do.

I also asked how you acquired Paint- and got no answer. I showed you how I reinstated Paint.

I'm guessing you got yours from the Store.

If so, why not discard that, and do what I did to get a version that works?

That's my guess anyway-- if I'm right.. you could have resolved this long ago.

Here's where my version of Paint is located - where the start menu shortcut points -

It appears to be due to some combinations of Languages and Keyboard.

Mine works as it should with Language English(UK) and Keyboard English(UK).

mspaint is not available by default. I think I made my reasons abundantly clear. Good luck, and thank you for your reply.

I have never seen this reported before.

Does it happen for another user account? Please create another one for test purposes if you don't already have one. Add Local Account ... - TenForumsTutorials
Does it happen in Safe mode? Boot into Safe Mode - TenForumsTutorials
Do you have any strange behaviour in other applications? Perhaps you could test in Notepad C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe or Wordpad "%ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

dalchina's responses make me think that clean installs of recent versions of Windows 10 do not include MSPaint, C:\Windows\System32\mspaint.exe.
My own experience indicates that updated earlier Versions do not lose their existing MSPaint.
There were other examples of this a couple of years ago so I'm not overly surprised.
I have not reinstalled since 2016 so have not some across this change.
There are various methods of rescuing components such as MSPaint which we can discuss afterwards if you like.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
