MyPhoneExplorer will not connect Android 12 cellphone (Bluetooth, USB)

I'm using MPE for a long time and it works fine with my old cellphone (Android 6). I'm using connection over Bluetooth and it works.

I have a new cellphone with Android 12 and trying to use Bluetooth or USB connections but neither one works.
New cellphone is connected to internet but do not suggest me to use WiFi as my desktop is on different Net than WiFi one, so I need a solution for Bluetooth or USB.

New cellphone has MPE client installed and it is running before I connect to USB or trying to use Bluetooth.
I have Developer mode enabled and File Fransfer in ON.

I can browse files on my cellphone from my PC.
MPE indicates that USB is connected.

However when I'm trying to access cellphone from MPE (add user) I'm getting this
MyPhoneExplorer will not connect Android 12 cellphone (Bluetooth, USB)-nousb.jpg

When I'm turning on Bluetooth I can pair it with earbuds and hear music.
When I'm pairing it with my PC, it pairs and both cellphone and PC have pair stored.
When I'm asking to add a user it shows this
MyPhoneExplorer will not connect Android 12 cellphone (Bluetooth, USB)-mpe.bt.1.jpg
    So MPE sees the cellphone.
    However after I'm getting this
MyPhoneExplorer will not connect Android 12 cellphone (Bluetooth, USB)-mpe.bt.2.jpg

    This is the story.

Thank you @Try3 for helping me (this is my first thread here).

I have Samsung S21 5G phone with Android 12. I have a laptop with Windows 10 called EventHorizon.

I had tried this before but couldn't get it to work. This time I was determined to succeed. I got my phone to work with MyPhoneExplorer using WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB.

    1. With WiFi I had to enter the PIN on the PC from the my MyPhoneExplorer app on the phone. Once done it connected OK.

    2. With Bluetooth it was pretty easy once the phone was paired with the laptop. It connected right off once I told MyPhoneExplorer to connect.

    a. Pair the phone to the computer. It will ask to verify PINs on both ends. Once done it will show Connected for calls.

    b. In MyPhoneExplorer in Settings select Bluetooth

    c. Select Connect

    d.
On the phone if you open the MyPhoneExplorer client you will see you are connected with Bluetooth.

    3. With USB it wasn't as straightforward. It kept giving the same error as you had and said I needed to give permission to connect. I was stumped because I didn't see any new notification on my phone. Here are the steps I finally had to do. Note before I connected the USB cable I disabled WiFi and Bluetooth on the phone. Otherwise, it would get confusing because it would try to connect with one of them.

    a. In the MyPhoneExplorer Settings I selected USB cable

    b. In the phone Settings I enabled USB debugging and selected OK. Important I left this open.

    c. In MyPhoneExplorer I selected Connect

    d. On the phone I got a popup notification asking to allow the connection. I selected Allow.

    e. On the phone open the MyPhoneExplorer client. You will see the phone is connected to the PC with USB cable.

    Andrey,

I cannot see anything wrong with your procedure and, other than trying a different USB cable for that part of your testing, I cannot suggest any logical solution.

I do suggest that you note MrEd's paras 3b & 3d, the apparent need to keep the USB debugging On dialogue open in order to see the prompt about allowing it once the connection is made. That must be an Android 12 constraint.

I still think it would be worth connecting by WiFi just for test purposes. It would prove that MPE on the computer & MPE on the phone were capable of talking to each other.

I also think you should post in the MPE forum.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Some "no go"

Hi @MisterEd, thank you for trying to help me, but it looks like you did not read my post closely.

I can pair my cellphone and my computer. Both sides showing it as paired. However connection is not stable (on and off) and MFE does not recognise it.

As well regular file transfer (Windows 10 to phone via Bluetooth) does not work as well.

At the same time my old cellphone (with Android 6) works fine (via both MPE and file transfer).

I’ve tried to connect my new one with some of my laptops that have Bluetooth and had got same result, it does not work.

So your step-by-step instructions are good, but I did it already and they did not help.

I did not try Wi-Fi as this option does not work for me but I’m sure it will work ( @Try3 ).

USB option as well does not help me.

I tried to follow your instructions precisely (“left this open”, etc.) but it did not give me any success.
I’ve found some notes about ADB drivers and installed Universal ADB pack, it changes some behaviour and messages, however it did not solve the problem and MPE still cannot find my cell via USB.

But I have some news and will post them soon.

    Thank you,

    Andrey

    Solution was found

    Hi @Try3, @MisterEd, I resolved this situation.

I’m pretty confident that I’ve faced backward compatibility issue of either Android 12 or ASUS Android 12 custom build.

As I’ve mentioned before I have no issues communicating any of my systems with older Android versions. I had quite an old Bluetooth dongle but it is still functional with exception of Android 12 devices. I decided to buy a new Bluetooth device with faster interface (v5) and it comes with a dedicated driver which replaced Microsoft default one. From this moment MPE via Bluetooth starts to work without any additional tweaking.

That is why I concluded that the issue is a default Microsoft Bluetooth driver which works fine with older Android versions but for unknown reason is not supported by Android 12 (or its ASUS version).

I’m not going to investigate my “via USB” issues as I was initially looking for Bluetooth solution.

    Thank you,

    Andrey
