SERIOUS SECURITY QUESTION: Safest App to read PDF files?

    Hi all,

I need a secure and safe App that I can trust that will ONLY read PDF files without altering or changing PDF files in any way shape or form.

I've been using LibreOffice's PDF reader as I thought this would be the safest since it's open source software, but it's very easy for me to make changes to PDF files...

I've used Adobe Acrobat Reader but I can make changes to PDF files in this as well...

I've used Microsoft Edge, but I've heard of cases where PDF file contents have been leaked...

I just want to an App I can use that won't connect to the Internet and doesn't have the ability to alter .PDF files

    Thank you

Pretty sure SumatraPDF (free) will cover that.

    Thank you for your reply!

I'm reading the website now and it's open source which makes it even better. I'm downloading it now and I'll try it out soon!

    EDIT:
I need a PDF Reader to use tonight so if anyone has any other open source PDF Readers to suggest I'd really appreciate it!

I was just about to download it but there's also a pro version as well so this makes me worry...

Is there a PDF Reader that is just plain open source?

Well, Sumatra has an open source version on Github.
BUT... being open source... anyone can alter it.

I've been using SumatraPDF for ages, and however much I wanted to... I could never edit anything in a PDF, with Sumatra.

Now if you mean a program to stop "others" from editing your PDFs... I don't know of anything like that.
If that's what you're after... I guess I would look for a PDF program that can password protect your PDFs?

I've used the Adobe PDF reader for years, at least in Win XP days and maybe before, never had an issue.

Sumatra looks good but what's holding me back is that there's a "pro version".

I'm reading some reviews about using Firefox as a PDF Reader but it'd be great if I didn't have to use an App that connects to the Internet so much...

I don't understand what the problem is with the Pro version. Just download the free version, and in the Settings > Options UNcheck "Automatically check for updates".

As Ghot suggested try Sumatra. I've used the free version for a long time and never had a problem with it. It's a reader, nothing more, and doesn't connect to the internet if you don't allow it.

This Electron app is as basic as you can get. Options to switch page scroll from horizontal to vertical or show page thumbnails. Rotate view or select text for copying to clipboard.

    That's about all it does.
