My .txt files just app has changed???

I use the text document to make notes that I keep on my computer. Until today they opened in a simple text document page. Today when I opened one it asked which app to open with. It gave me a choice of Wordpad or look at the Microsoft store. I believe the one I always used before was called notepad.

Did this change in an update? if so how can I get notepad back?

Just change the assoication back to what you want.

E.g. Open With, Choose another app, select Notepad, Click 'Always use...'

If it was that easy I wouldn't have posted I tried that and notepad is no longer an option???

You may have to scroll down to Notepad.

Can you open Notepad by searching? E.g. the search box on your task bar or via Win key + S? The Start Menu?

Sorrry if I sounded rude, my frustration was on this changing without my knowledge and it just came through in the post. wasn't meant towards you.

Although notepad is not a choice I just did "open with" and found notepad and got it back.

Something strange is happening, even though I was able to find notepad on my computer and my .txt files do now open in notepad again. However, when I create a new text document the icon is wordpad, I cna change it to notepad icon by changing the icon but it only changes it for the one I am changing. is there a way to set an icon ( notepad ) for all .txt files in Windows?

This must have happened with an update. First it's the problem with all my fonts tails being cut off in File explorer and some other programs and now this??? I hate to have to do a fresh install to correct these issues but it's once thing after another lately.... sorry to vent

I changed it in settings and now the notepad issue is resloved, thank you very much

I thought I fixed it I went to default apps and set the text documents to notepad and all the icons changed to notepad. However, now when I right click and chose to create a new txt file the icon is wordpad again????
