Having a torrid time trying to do two seemingly straightforward operations...

Xilinx have a development platform I need to install, initially you download a web installation .exe file, which I have done (3 times). When I run it as Admin it unpacks 0 to 100%, then just disappears. It's as if I had never run it.

I sent the 208 meg file to a friend, running with a fresh copy of Win 10 64 bit Pro, like the one I am running here. It unpacked then went on with a web based box asking for user and password details, blah blah, as it should.

I queried any obvious differences in what he has installed on his Win 10, and he has dotnet 3.5, which he said he believed was installed automatically when he loaded Win 10 on a bare HD.

I downloaded the dotnet 3.5 installer file (3 times...) from MS, but in some ways similarly to the Xilinx stuff, when I run the installer file as Admin, zilch, nothing at all happens...

If I could run this AMD board and processor using Win 7 I would be there like shot, this is the first time I have tried Windows 10 and I have to say it's like a computer version of a free supermarket check out magazine. Newspaper headlines? Football results? All without the asking? Not impressed, especially when I can't get it to do basic OS stuff :)

Maybe it's me doing or not doing something, would any kind soul be able to advise me please?

I did Google the dotnet issue and tried various fixes like checking it was listed in installable software, which it was. I am hoping this dotnet stuff is what stands between me and getting the Xilinx development software to install.

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 21H2, Ryzen 9 5950X, 32 GB RAM, Gigabyte X570S UD MB.

Many thanks. Have a good week and all the best, Chris Wilson.
