Cannot Open Microsoft Store and Most of My Apps

Hello all. I am running Windows 10 Pro 21H2 64-bit with the latest build, 19044.1706.

I'm unable to open Microsoft Store and many of my apps. Only a few of my apps still work (Calculator and Clock, for example) but most will not open at all or will open only to quickly close. I also have four of the rogue app name *ms-resource:* in my start menu. Windows Update appears to be working fine.

Based on the app history in my Revo Uninstaller, It looks like my system was running smooth up to 3/8/22 because on that date, it shows I was able to receive a few app updates without having to enter the store to do it manually. Right now, it lists apps as being recently updated but those apps cannot be found in my start menu nor under apps in Settings.
I have tried the usual steps (in safe mode/safe mode with networking, where possible) with no luck or with no errors/corruption found:
    1. error check on my C drive
    2. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
    3.
cleared Software Distribution Downloads and Cache
    4. Windows Update troubleshooter
    5. Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
    6. wsreset
    7. sfcfix
    8. setupdiag (crashed/would not open)

I ran the command *getappx-package -allusers* and it looks like most of my apps are present including the Store. Here is exactly what it gave me:

    Name : Microsoft.WindowsStore
    Publisher : CN=Microsoft Corporation, O=Microsoft Corporation, L=Redmond, S=Washington, C=US
    Architecture : X64
    ResourceId :
    Version : 22203.1401.21.0
    PackageFullName : Microsoft.WindowsStore_22203.1401.21.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
    InstallLocation :
    IsFramework : False
    PackageFamilyName : Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    PublisherId : 8wekyb3d8bbwe
    PackageUserInformation : {S-1-5-18 [S-1-5-18]: Paused}
    IsResourcePackage : False
    IsBundle : False
    IsDevelopmentMode : False
    NonRemovable : False
    IsPartiallyStaged : False
    SignatureKind : Store
    Status : Ok

On a side note, when I ran the above command in Powershell 7.2.4, it returned the error *get-appxpackage: The 'get-appxpackage' command was found in the module 'Appx', but the module could not be loaded. For more information, run 'Import-Module Appx'.* However, the command ran successfully in original Powershell.

The command *Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml* (before this command I entered *Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted*) yielded the error:

Add-AppxPackage : Cannot find path 'C:\WINDOWS\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml' because it does not exist.
    At line:1 char:1

    FoundException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PathNotFound,Microsoft.Windows.Appx.PackageManager.Commands.AddAppxPackageCommand

NOTE: I have many *appxmanifest.xml* files but none in the WinStore folder per the error.

    The command *icacls "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /reset /t /c /q* yielded the following error:
    C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MutableBackup: Access is denied.
Successfully processed 10245 files; Failed processing 1 files
I fear if this issue isn't solved, any morning now I am going to wake up to a BSOD. I have uploaded my Windows Update, CBS, and DISM logs in hopes they will help. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I'm happy to provide any additional info you see fit. Thank you so much for your consideration and hope to hear back from you soon!

    Hi, welcome to tenforums. Given

Cannot find path 'C:\WINDOWS\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml' because it does not exist.
    - relatively well-known error message -

    please see:
Fix: Windows 10 Store Won't Open

Avoid taking permission of things unless absolutely necessary.

Basic backup regime to protect yourself from disaster and give yourself a second chance:
    a. use disk imaging regularly and routinely- endlessly recommended here- e.g. Macrium Reflect
    b. have a System Restore point created daily on a schedule - tutorial available. Great when SR works.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Steps 1 through 3.5 failed. I can't get past the appxmanifest.xml error.

    Observations:
    • On the new user account I created, Mail and Calendar work but do not work in my original account.
    • In my original account, Video Editor which I think is an extension of Photos opens then closes yet Photos itself works fine; Windows File Recovery is gone too (tried to uninstall it through start menu but couldn't).
    • New apps appeared in both accounts.
    • In both accounts the Store and Cortana are completely gone and ms:account entries in start menu under "other" remain.

I don't understand how I got this new influx of apps while the Store is gone (supposedly).

Is there any one here with the time to take a deeper dive into this with me?

    Thank you again

Hi, assuming your disk is ok (3rd party tool) and your file system also (chkdsk c: /scan)

    - here's what I might do in this circumstance:
    - restore Windows from a recent disk image.

The routine and regular use of disk imaging is endlessly recommended here e.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

Have you ever considered doing that, or do you already use it?

    Otherwise:

    See
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...0-a4b3717658bc
Microsoft Store App missing in Windows 10 (7 ways to Get it back)

And if that doesn't help, given the multiple problems, try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data. Tutorial available.

Feel free to try searching using part of the error message- including searching tenforums for solved threads.

    @Mighty Joe

I uninstalled MS Store and nothing could bring it back, except... post 26 and 28, here...

I completely uninstalled microsoft Store, now I want it back.

The problems are different, but the solution may be the same.
I tried all the things you've tried and more. Nothing worked, until I tried Solution #9 at Appual's website.

    Good luck.

If worse comes to worst, you can always do an In-Place Upgrade...

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.
The ISO must be created in the same language as you are using in Windows, to be able to keep your Programs and Files.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.
