    TestDisk/MiniTool Partition Wizard help

    Hello guys,
I accidentally deleted a partition, a few programs were recommended to me. Both of them were able to find the deleted partition and list all of the files on it, but when it comes to writing back the partition table unto the Hard Drive both of the programs failed to do so. The programs in question are MiniTool Partition Wizard and TestDesk. With the latter, I got the error "No partition found", even though I could see it and list the files and this is the error I got when trying to write the partition table data. With the former, I get "invalid configure file" when I click apply. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hello @nicholaslostdat,
    Welcome to TenForums.

This sounds like one for our resident Guru @jumanji. He will see the mention and might be able to advise and help. He is based in India, so please allow for the time difference.

    Hi @nicholaslostdat,

OMG! To you and many others here, who think I am a Data Recovery Professional, the truth is I am not one . Basically I am a 1967 vintage Electronics and Communication Engineer, by work experience a BioMedical Engineer and by job description a retired Scientist in Defence. I have acquired some limited proficiency in data recovery by my own experiments and reading user experiences mainly while in Seven forums where I started as an Audio/video enthusiast and gradually put my fingers in data recovery... Nothing great, but sure I have helped many with my limited self-acquired skills.

Partitiion Wizard and TestDisk are of course my favorites. So let us get on and see what is in your pot.

    1. Is your disk in question a system disk or secondary Internal data disk or an external disk? Details of the disk Model no./ Manufacturer/ capacity

2, Post a full screenshot of Windows Disk Management as per the guidelines here How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management. (Please remove all other external storage devices.)

    3. Post a full screenshot of Partition Wizard - the very first screen that appears when you launch Parttion Wizard. Intimate the version you are using.

Further questions after I see the screenshots.

I once used DiskGenius to recover files from an accidentally deleted partition, but don't use it unless it has been approval by the No. 1 data recovery professional here, who often denies being professional because of modesty.

    1. It is a secondary internal disk. Model: ST500LT012-1DG142

I got the "invalid config file" after I scanned the drive and did what was required to get it going. It had 2 tasks pending. One was to delete D: (I got nothing on it) other one way to copy the partition table, but when I clicked apply I got the message "Invalid Config file".

To add more, I think I'm doing something wrong. Because both programs are able to list my files, but both are unable to write the partition table back to the drive :/

Let me get the correct sequence of events.

    1. How many partitions were there in the 500GB Seagate drive? what drive letters?

    2. "accidentally deleted a partition" What exactly did you do that deleted the partition?

    3. "I scanned the drive" Do you mean that you ran the Partition Recovery Wizard in MiniTool Partition Wizard and did a quick scan/full scan?

    1. There were 2 partitions, one of which had an old Windows installation on it. The other one had stuff on it (this is one I'm trying to recover). Drive Letters D and E
    2. I tried merging the two partitions, when I tried to do so I got the error: The Selected GPT Formatted Disk Contains A Partition Which Is Not Of Type ‘PARTITION_BASIC_DATA_GUID’, I used google advice thinking that it would affect only one of the partition(Used DiskPart and selected the exact partition I want converted, this is what led me to think it would be only one of one the partitions) and here I am.
    3. Full scan.

Also, just noticed that it lists my current partition as logical, and the one I was trying to recover was listed as Primary, maybe this is where the issue lies? But again, when I used TestDisk I had selected the Logical option and nothing happened.

Sorry, I have difficulty in understanding your writeup. ( I also noticed that the volume was logical and wodering why a logical partition in a 1TB MBR disk.) You seem to have messed up a lot with the drive. With such a messup and unclear understanding ability on my part, I don't think I will be able to do a "reverse engineering" and bring it back to the original condition. Data recovery rather than disk/partition recovery may be the only option. Let us see whether we succeed or not as we chug along.

Run Partition Recovery Wizard, full scan and take screenshot of the Partitions Found window that appears at the end of the full scan. Tell me which partition shows all your files when double clicked. Put a tick mark in the square , double click on it and take a screenshot of the explorer Window that shows your files.( only those windows and not full screen). Quit PW and post the two screenshots. Its already nearing midnight here. I shall see the screenshots my tomorrow morning about ten hours from now by 10AM here.

Is the local time shown in your posts correct? If not go to settings and change to the correct time zone. Your local time shows just past 12.00 noon right now.
