[Although I seem to have settled some problems, among the issues with MPE is the following one which I have had from the outset. I cannot delete old messages. The program seems to go through the motions, the message(s) are cleared, but then later they all appear again. I have not sought help with this before because it does not affect the usability of the app but it may do in future. I now have all the 'deleted' messages displaying from May 2021. This must be taking up storage space and may in time become a more major issues. Any ideas?

MPE cannot delete messages on the phone with Android versions 11/12. I cannot remember when this capability ended; it might have been Android 10.
I have to delete text messages on my phone itself these days.
I do not have the rigmarole you describe. MPE just tells me the message cannot be deleted.

My phone is 10, updated to 11, so no doubt that is the explanation. Seems a bit odd. How do you delete MPE messages directly on your phone? ---- I have not found them anywhere on the phone itself. They have not appeared in any of my messaging apps, or anywhere else to my as far as I know.

I am worried that I am not following you correctly. Messages should be shown in your messaging app itself.
Whilst its work can be replaced by a third-party utility, I have not seen a phone that did not have a default, built-in messaging app.

Ah! Do you mean archived messages? Open your messaging app, check that you do not have any messages selected, click on the dot-dot-dot icon at the top-right [of mine] to bring up the menu & press Archived. You'll probably also have a Spam & blocked section to check as well.

    In my current messaging app,
    - I press and hold [for a second or so] one or more messages to select them
    - A dustbin icon appears as soon as the first one is selected, so when I've selected all that I want, I press the dustbin icon to delete them.

Android really is a pain in the neck sometimes.
In checking what to say to you, I have seen that an icon on one of my Home pages has disappeared. I don't know which one it is, I arrange my icons in patterns so I can spot changes and there's a gap that was not there before.
It's the WiFi hotspot icon which I think I have to create as a 'Settings shortcut' so I'll have to check my notes for how to create them. It's now a standard widget [in a group that my phone calls Standard functions widgets] so I've managed to put it back on the relevant home screen.

I found the same thing. MPE cannot delete messages on my Samsung S21 with Android 12. Unfortunately, I can't delete messages on the phone with Windows 10 Phone Link either. I can only read them. However, with Phone Link there is another trick.

Click on the Screen icon to display the phone screen

Once I find the message I can use my mouse to right-click on it and select Delete in the menu.

I apologise, I made a mistake asking about 'messages'. What I was looking at and have been unable to delete/clear, as described, is the CALL LOG. Apart from that(!) what I described is correct, I cannot delete the listed calls, shown monthly back to May 2021. As for the TEXT messages it seems to differ depending on what messaging app was used (I am trying out several). Thus, some can be deleted, others respond with a 'cannot be deleted' notification and others specify with a specific notification 'WhatsApp message cannot be deleted.' I am somewhat bemused. I need to test this much more as I have only recently started to look at the MPE message received / sent feature. I hope I am not causing too much confusion.

I have not looked into Call logs for a decade.
    - They used to be entries in a database that could be copied to my computer and manipulated in Notepad because their structure was simple.
    - On my phone I can press and hold an entry in Call history and select Delete.
    - I had not considered what is possible through MPE in this regard. I have just used MPE to delete an entry. I stopped then reconnected MPE and the deleted entry is still missing in MPE but still exists in my phone's Call history.

    All the best,
    Denis

First, the problem with sending messages from MPE seems to be solved. Without going into detail there is a bit of a quirk with my phone which seems (a) occasionally to turn off MOBILE DATA in Settings and (b) makes it less clear that it is on or off (t actually says there is no SIM!) I now have DATA switched back on manually when I want to send a message and MPE and other message apps are sending them OK (I was also for a while misled by WhatsApp when I started to try it, because it sent message with no difficulty (I have some other difficulties, but it is better on my phone for which it is designed). Then I discovered it sent them by WiFi, not using my Sim DATA account! --- I may become a regular user of WA.

Second, my inability to delete messages from as far back as May 2021. I have tried to follow your description of how to use the messaging (apps) on the phone itself. I have two, the inbuilt Messager and Google Messenger. Neither seem to match your description of how to go to the archive and delete them there. Google Messenger does have Archived in its Settings but it is empty.I will have another look but with the same result this paragraph will not have been edited or deleted before I post it
