An app to extract text from images?

Hello. I would like to use on my Desktop, something like Google Photos, with the useful "extract text from images" (OCR) function.
Is there any valid desktop app for that? I tried Irfanview with OCR plugin, but it works really bad. Using Google Photos via browser, is not an option, because I disabled it, and it's completely full.

works on pdf, word files etc. it will convert from one to the other (pdf to word or word to pdf) but will make the text editable and can be copied elsewhere.

no, not free, but not many better.

MS OneNote part of most versions of MS Office, and an MS Store version, has an OCR facility.

Select inserted image > Right click > Copy Text from Picture.
