MODI and Windows 10

Hi all

I used to have a beaut little app when I was on Win 7. It was Microsoft Office Document Imaging, and it was brilliantly useful. You could scan documents as TIFFs and OCR read them with MODI. I recently transferred the MODI folder from another machine on which MODI still works (and which also had the Win 10 upgrade, from Win 7) to a newer laptop which had previously been Win 8.1.

A popup on the new machine informs me "Win 10 is not yet configured to run this program" or words to that effect.

Any thoughts as to how to "configure" Win 10 to run MODI?

OK, there being no replies I'm going to assess there's either no expertise or no interest out there.

I know this is an old post, but since it sits at the top of results on the search engine I use I'm guessing there are still some people interested in this topic.

With regards to MODI on W10 64 bit I was able to get the document viewer correctly installed and functioning with W10 64 bit by performing a new install from scratch using Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2007 installer available for free from MS.

PLEASE NOTE : Prior to performing this install you need to go to Windows Features and enable .NET 3.5 in Windows 10 or you will be prompted to download it during the install. I had an error while enabling the feature but it seems to be enabled and software worked in spite of it.

To perform the install follow the directions in this article from MS ->

After the install you probably want to find Microsoft Office Document Imaging in the start menu, R-click on it, choose More, and Run as Administrator. Once you have the application running with Administrator privileges go to the menu and choose Tools/Options select the Other tab and click on the Reset button to make it the default app for TIF and MDI files.

I have tried your suggested steps but unfortunately I cannot find the MODI application in my start menu.

I can successfully use MODI w/ Windows 10, however, I cannot use the "print to" function. I have tried several ways to make the computer recognize it as a printer. I still cannot get it to work. Anybody have any new ideas?

I found the real solution two years later:
After installing MODI (in compatibility mode "Vista" if necessary) go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\12.0\
you will find there these two programmes
- MSPVIEW.EXE- MSPSCAN.EXE
Right-click - MSPVIEW.EXE and change compatibility into "Windows Vista"

Then pick any .tif(f) file - Right click "open with" and navigate all the way down
till you can choose your own app, navigatie to that same location
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\12.0\
and choose "- MSPVIEW.EXE"
Be shure to have the option checked to always open this type of file with this app !!

It works like charm, both in 32 as well in 64 bit machines
