Indeed, I'm not asking or expecting to bypass UAC, I'm expecting to bring up UAC, enter credentials and have elevated windows terminal just like it's possible with PS or CMD.
Looks like we both posted at about the same time. So, I think that I understand better now. Tell me if I have this correct now:

The whole issue is that when you attempt to run Terminal as an Admin, it is not even offering you the option of supplying Admin credentials to allow you to run it elevated? Is that correct?

On my systems, it is allowing me to enter admin credentials, so clearly it is possible. If that is indeed the issue, we just need to figure out why you are not even being offered that as an option.

I have valid admin credentials and I'm able to log into admin account just fine, when I run terminal as admin in standard windows account, UAC appears just fine (twice btw.), I enter valid credentials and get error message from my OP.

Are you saying you can run any store app as admin in standard user account just fine?

No, in fact, most store apps don't even give an option to run as admin. But Terminal works fine for me. However, there may be a very important difference in that I'm running Windows 11 exclusively. I had a couple of Win 10 VMs but just wiped those this morning. I'm going to try standing up another Win 10 install but it may be a little while as I need to attend to a few other things first.

I have W11 in VM, and terminal seems to be default thing there.

Under standard account, right click on start it gives me an option to start it as Admin: "Windows Terminal (Admin)"
odd but when I click on that it shows no terminal at all, it asks for credentials, which I give, but no elevated terminal appears.

It works however to start is non elevated.

    Finished quickly...

Working fine for me on Win 10 as well. Here is my test scenario:

    Windows 10 21H2 build 19044.1288
    Windows Terminal 1.11.3471.0

Both Windows and Terminal were installed within the last few minutes, 100% clean but have all the latest updates.

Not sure what to say other than to think that something installed or some policy is interfering with proper operation for you. Will try to research further to see if I can find any other possibilities.

EDIT for clarity: When I say that it is working for me, I mean that I can right-click and choose to run as admin at which point I am prompted for admin credentials and Terminal then runs flawlessly. I am logged in as a standard user, not an admin.

zebal, I'm not clear on one detail: Are you in a workgroup or a domain environment? If in a domain, any possibility that a policy of some sort is being pushed to you? Just seems odd that your physical machine and the VM would be causing that kind of grief.

    That's indeed strange as hell!

I just run Windows 10 instance in VM, and got the same error when trying to run terminal as Admin
I'm not in a domain, regular workstation without any policy modified - all default.

Hey man, without you I would give up, but following worked:
Unpin windows terminal and pin it back and it works

lol, thanks so much for your time, much appreciated!
