    Windows 10. Cannot install Netlimiter-4.1.12.0.exe

    Hi Guys,

I have Windows 10 ver 21H2 (OS Build 19044,1387) installed on my PC

With latest updates to windows including Net. Framework

    I have a problem installing netlimiter-4.1.12.0.exe

I get an error message saying it cannot start the service.

I have tried turning off antivirus’s software.

I have used msconfig and stopped all programs and services which are not required to run windows.

But still, I get the same error message.

I have asked the developers of the software for help but get now answer from them.

As a side issue I have installed the same program on a windows 11 PC with no problem.

Has anyone got an idea why it won’t install?

    Thank You……..

I found it was, oddly, a 2 stage installation. The first installed 'prerequisite' software, with an unexpected restart, then I had to restart the installation, when the actual program was installed. It ran ok for me.

FWIW I have Avast installed, so nothing related to Defender features should interfere.

    Thanks for your response, dalchina
I uploaded a couple of screenshots to
show what was happening on my PC.
    After the installation is started
which takes about 5 seconds starting services
then nothing happens till the Error message appears
which is in the screenshot "Error MSG.jpg"
I clicked on retry multiple times. Nothing happens
When I click on cancel it removes
the none running service and uninstalls all the software
that was installed to the original installation location.

I have all the privileges, I am Admin.

If I run services.msc and look in the list of services
    NetLimiter.4 Service is not running.
If I start the service manually then it stop.

It's got to be something to do with the service not been started ???

I hope someone has more suggestions?
I would like to get this program running !
    Thank you..

When you installed it did you have UAC on and do you see a UAC prompt when you start installation?

Have you applied any tweaks or changed services from default?

Well, the first thing I saw as I mentioned was that prerequisite installation and a restart, then had to restart the installation as I said. I don't recall what happened then about UAC - it's so common I don't notice.

But if I start the installation now, I definitely do. Mine's set to 1 down from top - 'Notify me only ..'

We're both admin, and same version...
    This is what's been installed:
    Windows 10. Cannot install Netlimiter-4.1.12.0.exe-2.jpg
    and this service:

Well I am still stumped, as you can see we are both using M/V C++
I also have all the previous versions installed.

The fact you don't see a UAC prompt when you install it indicates a difference.

Do you ever see one for anything?

There are ways of disabling it:
Enable or Disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows
Change UAC prompt Behavior for Administrators in Windows
    - is it possible one applies in your case?

I have already tried this method.
I Enable and Disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows.
and did a reboot, then tried to install Netlimiter.4
and on both occasions the installation got stuck.

In my first post on this subject I said I had installed Netlimiter.4
on this PC running windows 11.
it will install under windows 11 regardless of the setting of (UAC)

I can easily swap from windows 10 to 11 on this PC!
As I have 2 Images of the OS..

To be clear- forgetting Netlimiter- I repeat- do you EVER get a UAC prompt in any other circumstance- e.g. installing a totally different program?

And you haven't addressed the point I made about the totally different ways in which it might be disabled.

All that said, I can't tell you if that's definitely related to the problem you're having. But it suggests something is amiss.

It seems you would be happier to upgrade to Win 11 than to fix Win 10. The choice is yours.
