Windows Media Player weirdness - duplicating songs in library

Hello I encountered this once before and fixed it through shear brute force by manually deleting all the duplications. For whatever reason I find that when I open an album in Windows Media Player there will be 1 or 2 duplicates of each song. The files in my Music folder are normal so the duplications appear in the Media Player folders only. Is there a quick and easy fix for this? Should I just dump that app and find something new? Inquiring minds want to know.

Check that you do not have duplicate or overlapping paths entered in
    WMP,
    Organise,
    Manage libraries,
    Music.

    Best of luck,

Well, I never figured out what was causing it, but after much mucking around I solved it by downloading a different music app. Now quite as easy to use as WMP but at least it works.

    MusicBee is quite like WMP.
If I ever have to stop using WMP I will go straight to MusicBee instead.

I'd choose the installer version or portable version rather than the Windows Store version because I always expect Store versions to be awful.

You could also try the WMP library troubleshooter
    Start menu,
    Windows system,
    Control panel,
    [View by - Small icons],
    Troubleshooting,
    View all,
    Windows media player library

You could also try rebuilding the WMP library
    In WMP,
[alt - to get the menu bar to appear],
    Tools,
    Advanced,
    Restore media library

    All the best,
    Denis
